Metal pipes are 1-0 in PRIDE.
Totally agree. I think it's as simple as a weak but otherwise accurate jab/straight on the button, if your opponent truly isn't expecting it, can put them out. That's why we can see absolute tanks smack their own face, hands-down, and eat shots: every fibre of their body and mind is anticipating it. But if you're backpedaling and think you're out of range, maybe wondering what you're going to do next, and suddenly your thoughts are interrupted by a stiff shot on the button, even from a guy with pink hairTo this day, I'm astonished that that rabbit punch that put Kimbo down. I've still never seen a good angle on it. Kimbo, while very raw, at least seemed very strong and tough. There was one backyard fight where he dropped his hands and let his large black opponent give about three free shots to the face that didn't seem to phase him at all. I understand other factors come into play as to how much effect a shot has, but that shot seemed like nothing..lol. I saw Seth almost knock out another huge guy the same way, I forget who the opponent was. I just wonder what his secret was. Impeccable timing?
I remember seeing video footage (it has since been taken down) of Struve crying and Mitrione being very positive, reassuring, and encouraging towards him after he'd learned what happened (their fight had been cancelled at UFC 175).Stefan Struve had suspected heart palpitations which turned out to be a panic attack, right?
