Has anyone ever had to pull out of a fight during the event?

What a beautiful moment in mma history: unheralded (and somewhat mediocre) skill beating strength, hype, and money. I love it.
It was def a visual factor too. Kimbo is this muscular scary street fighter and Seth was a lanky pink haired LHW. Casuals had no idea who Seth was and it prob made them more insecure based on his appearance.

UFC 213 Nunes was sick on fight day and pulled out vs shevchenko.

Way back UFC 3. 1 night tournament Royce was exhausted after war/win with Kimo and pulled out.

Even worse, he "started" the next fight but his corner threw in the towel immediately, thus giving Harold Howard a free semifinals victory. He (Howard) would have been matched against Ken Shamrock in the finals, but Shamrock himself, who was dealing with injuries, pulled out of the final fight because it wasn't going to be against Gracie. Thus Steven Jennum, an alternate, got a free trip to the finals and won the tournament.

That was before, at a press conference right?

I vaguely remember hearing someone like got injured or hurt before a fight old white fighter like coleman or Ken shamrock back in the day,but I also feel I'm wrong.

I do want to say it has happened before though. In just not sure.

It was Randleman!

Kevin Randleman was warming up and jumped or something and hit his head and got a concussion.

it happened. He couldn’t fight.

Randleman vs Rizzo at UFC 24, happened at UFC 26 instead.

who was the dude recently who passed out backstage right before the fight. can't remember his name.

Didn't something happen with Mitrione and Fedor also

Someone just passed out right b4 the walkout.. Cant remember who but it just happened a few months ago

that’s the one that came to mind for me. Just a long, awkward pause between bouts and the commentators at a loss for their next few words. Fortunately, he came back to get his fight.

Ken Shamrock when he was supposed to fight Kimbo the first time. Seth Petruzelli stepped in with zero notice and destroyed Kimbo as well as the organization.
Seth then thought he punched a ticket to stardom.

Also, he claimed after the fight that EliteXC paid him extra to not take Kimbo down. He later retracted that statement..

Imagine if it was Khamzat vs Leon. The main event is 2 fights away from starting. Leon is backstage warming up and, rip! His ACL tears in half, and he has to pull out of the fight. The main event can't happen now!

Has that ever happened before?

When it does happen one day, how will the UFC deal with it? Can they take a guy that already had 1 fight earlier in the day and put him in for a second fight that evening?
I can't remember it happening in the UFC, but it happened in elitexc, with the kimbo and ken shamrock fight.

Mid show, ken was warming up and rolling, and cut his forehead open on something, needing stitches.

They pulled seth petruzelli from his lhw undercard bout, and put him in the main event vs Kimbo, where he KO'd kimbo and bankrupted the entire org, since they'd dumped all their money into Kimbo being their ppv star

To this day, I'm astonished that that rabbit punch that put Kimbo down. I've still never seen a good angle on it. Kimbo, while very raw, at least seemed very strong and tough. There was one backyard fight where he dropped his hands and let his large black opponent give about three free shots to the face that didn't seem to phase him at all. I understand other factors come into play as to how much effect a shot has, but that shot seemed like nothing..lol. I saw Seth almost knock out another huge guy the same way, I forget who the opponent was. I just wonder what his secret was. Impeccable timing?

Johil De Olivera and Matt Serra were supposed to fight in a Pride event, but Olivera got burned in a pyro accident during the walkout...

I think that’s how the story went...

Dunno. I've had to pull out during an event before.

Trevin Giles.

Another day-of cancellation was Derrick Lewis pulling out of a fight with Werdum because he woke up with a seized-up back.

There's been a crapload of day before's. Day of's definitely were more likely during the tournament days.
Stefan Struve had suspected heart palpitations which turned out to be a panic attack, right?
Yeah, happened during the event. Don't know about panic attack, but they weren't gonna take chances after his heart thing.

Similar with Whittaker vs. Gastelum. It was the day of the fight if not right after tge weigh ins that Rob got terribly ill and rushed to the ER.
Hernia, I think

IIRC in one of the earlier Pride GP's a fighter turned up at the ring & immediately threw in the towel. He was already injured from another fight earlier in the day & for him to get paid the extra $ he simply had to turn up.

I'm gonna have a guess & say it was Fujita at the 2000 or 2004 HW GP.

If @Gono is around he might be able to confirm this... dude's a walking mma encyclopaedia
