Has a groin strike or eye poke ever been ruled intentional in the UFC?

But I believe this was legal at the time, and in retrospect, totally justified

didnt Paulo Costa have a point taken recently enough for an eye poke? not sure if the ref ruled it accidental or intentional but there was definitely no warning or anything like that, he just took the point so maybe he ruled it intnetional

Yeah, Costa vs Vettori. I think the whole weight cut thing made Herzog take absolutely no BS, who knows?

Sometimes points can be deducted because of perceived damage, I've heard Herb Dean say " I have to take a point, he's clearly not the same after having x foul happen" or of course if there's multiple incidents regardless of intent. I can't recall anyone deeming an eye poke or groin strike as intentional in the UFC though, Yans knee however.

I can't remember his name, but there was some dirty as fuck Russian guy.

Dude was deliberately doing illegal moves the whole fight and pretty sure the ref started taking points for it. Bullshit thing is I think I remember him winning the fight regardless.

Hopefully someone can actually remember who this guy was.

Yes the irish dude that kicked Mike Jackson in the dick and almost poked his eye out.
"Dean Barry" was DQed for eye gouging Mike Jackson. I'm pretty sure it was ruled intentional and a very dirty move, considering almost nobody has a chance vs a fighter of Jackson's caliber

Intentional doesnt necessarily mean they aimed for the dick or the eye. It could be they were acting irresponsibly in their offence /defence and it occurred. Example : fingers extended outwards towards the face as a ranging piece ala JJ and an eye poke occurs

Reffing in the UFC is corrupt, they make sure Herb Dean is there when a cash cow fights and allow them to get away with fouls to help their chance of winning. Rewatch Yan vs O’Malley and notice just how many times O’Malley grabs Yans gloves, the cage, and eye pokes just to keep the fight competitive.

Conor vs Khabib is another example of flagrant fouls allowed by Herb, including knees to the head while grappling because they wanted Conor to win. Action is never taken if it would hurt the UFC favored fighter, the same way big stars never get robbed in decisions, they’re always the benefactors of robberies because judges are told to lean that way if it’s close (Paddy/Gordon). UFC is full of subtle corruption.

At Bellator 75 Eric Prindle was disqualified in his bout against Thiago Santos due to an illegal groin strike. No one actually said it was intentional, but the illegal strike added a loss to Prindle's record...

I think they assumed Prindle was getting revenge here, as Santos landed the exact same ball stomp in their first fight.
