He actually is pretty fantastic though. During his short lived peak, he'd likely beat any LHW ever outside of DC, Jones and Rumble. He's not Mr. Fantastic

Doesn't mean you are right. It was a close fight where Gus came up short. Again.I think gus beat dc.
Happens to the best of them in MMA. Sport is insane.Gustafson’s career was so sad to watch go down
The only round that Gustaffson outstruck Cormier was in round three. Guataffson's face was a mess at the end of that fight. I literally just watched this fight and the people in this thread trying to rewrite history here are fucking high AF lol.The scoring even then was effective striking first. If Gus was getting rocked and then running away it would be different, but he wasn’t. He was walking backwards while hitting DC and it continued like this for most of the fight. He was outstriking DC.
Again, not important and yes, my opinion but opinion can be substituted for interpretation of the facts. I see gus landing multiple strikes that clearly affected dc more than dc affected him in 2 and 4, 4 especially, including a big kick to the body that caused dc to hunch over
The only reason they’re so lopsided is because DC moved forward no matter what. Dana White is backing his champion. Trusting his opinion on things when we know how much of a liar he is is silly. And you’re using the media scores to justify the decision when I even mentioned that in the first post, just appealing to the masses of journalists![]()

Dana White 'a little horrified' a judge scored UFC 192's headliner for Gustafsson
Dana White agreed with what most judges and nearly every major media outlet had decided: that UFC light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier deserved the decision win over Alexander Gustafsson in this past Saturday's UFC 192 headliner. In the first successful defense…mmajunkie.usatoday.com
Those are the reports all the way to page 12 on google.
The best one had it a Draw for Gus and all the others for DC.
Gus Jones I was closer than DC Gus.
It was a great fight but to say Gus won is a huge stretch. It would've been an absolute robbery if he had gotten the nod.
At most, being very lenient, he won 2 rounds.
He threatened the fight end when he kneed DC so hard that he was swaying around dazed and confused unable to stand up and getting dropped. It was absolutely a close round that DC was clearly winning until Gus nearly knocked him out. Saying a fight er was ‘in control’ for 4 minutes doesn’t tell us anything about how many strikes gus was landing. At the end of the round the official stats were 36 strikes for DC to 33 for Gus. But I guess these 3 strikes that never dropped Gus outweigh Gus nearly finishing DCFrom what I remember, DC had full control of the clinch and was blasting Gus with uppercut and won over 4 minutes of the round, and after Gus dropped him with the knee, DC was almost immediately on the single and working his way back up. But it was a while ago since I saw it, so I can't be too certain, but I am fairly certain Gus never had the opportunity to take advantage of it by staying on top and raining down strikes or anything to threaten a fight end
Gustafsson outstruck Cormier in the 4th round and clearly landed the bigger strikes in this round, the body kicks, teep, 1-2’s and jabs were the most significant strikes of the round, and if you want to know how a judge gave it to Gus it’s because only one judge gave the 3rd round to Gus, while 3 gave him the 2nd and 2 gave him the 4th. The only reason DC got the decision is because he got the round that he got almost finished in.Gus did not beat Jones and Gus did not beat Cormier either. I just went and watched the Gus/ Cormier fight for the first time as a result of this thread. Cormier 1,4,5 for sure and round two was debatable for Gus. Easy to call this for DC. How one judge scored it for Gus I can't understand. Great fight.
He clearly landed the more effective strikes in round 4 and more of them totalThe only round that Gustaffson outstruck Cormier was in round three. Guataffson's face was a mess at the end of that fight. I literally just watched this fight and the people in this thread trying to rewrite history here are fucking high AF lol.
Weren't there like 3 different times during the round where Gus got caught in some one handed, dirty boxing clinch and just repeatedly ate punches? Saying a fighter was "in control" of a purely striking affair does say something about whose strikes were actually doing something, no matter how many Gus was landing. Weighing all strikes as equal except for the one that dropped seems convenient. He threatened the fight end when he kneed DC so hard that he was swaying around dazed and confused unable to stand up and getting dropped. I didn’t say all strikes were equal. But DC didn’t land anything that even made it look like gus was about to be finished. He can punch gus as many times as he wants but what gus did will always outweigh what dc did, becuase dc never dropped gus, or buckled his knees with the clinch uppercuts. It’s exactly the fact that not all strikes are equal is why gus won that round. The knee and the two punches that had dc flopping onto the canvas are worth more than anything else landed by either fighter in that roundWeren't there like 3 different times during the round where Gus got caught in some one handed, dirty boxing clinch and just repeatedly ate punches? Also, i don’t know exact numbers but let’s say just for arguments sake that DC landed 20 strikes in 4 minutes, and Gus landed 10. DC would be ‘in control’ of the striking as in hes winning most exchanges, but winning most exchanges doesn’t mean gus didn’t land 10 strikes. The criteria was effective striking; landing strikes and the significance of the strikes landed. So Gus was obviously losing because he was being outstruck and got his nose busted up, but the strikes he had landed in the 4 minutes still count towards his effective striking. The knee and the knockdown gets him the round not by itself, but accompanying his work in the previous 4 minutesWeren't there like 3 different times during the round where Gus got caught in some one handed, dirty boxing clinch and just repeatedly ate punches?
