Gustafsson beat Cormier…

U couldn't post the fight for reference??

Thats like mandatory for these kinds of thread bro...

I will post my scorecard and notes after my rewatch

All you have to remember is it doesn’t matter who is moving forward, that doesn’t score whatsoever

Gust's lack of power vs DC's power was the difference in round 4. Gust's hair flopping around every DC clubbed him may have made the strikes look more impactful than they were, or they illuminated just how powerful they were.

very close round, not a robbery by any stretch of the imagination.

Gus lands 37 of 68
5th round - DC lands 31 of 69
Gus lands 18 of 47

DC lands 219 of 364
Gus lands 130 of 264
(I didn't know how you can say Gus was more effective when DC landed more strikes and at a higher %)

DC gets 1 of 5 TD
Gus gets 1 of 7 TD
DC had 3 minutes and 30 seconds of control time on the ground.
Gus had 58 seconds of control time on the ground.
You also admitted that Gus was moving backwards the entire fight while DC was moving forward.

You really have to fanboy to give Gus this fight. I had it 49-46 DC. I can understand 48-47 DC but I can't give Gus the win.
There’s no point in talking about total strikes through 5 rounds when it’s scored round by round. And dc landing 1 more significant strike in round 2 doesn’t automatically give him the round when he got cut open, taken down and in my opinion hurt more by gus’ strikes

I don’t know if I would even call this fight a robbery but even if it wasn’t THAT clear to gus, I still believe he won
And I disagree about the power difference, DC landed maybe 2 or 3 punches that visibly effected gus in that 4th round, while gus was visibly affecting dc with his kicks and knees to the body, snapped dc’s head back on more than one occasion with jabs and landed some very good 1-2’s including one early in the round that wobbled dc slightly

DC strikes were far more effective. Even visually. Gus landed a punch on DC and it just looked like a normal punch. When DC landed a punch on Gus he always reacted. Had his head flopping all types of directions and had Gus disengage and literally turn his back and run away to reset. I remember seeing that Gus ran like 5 miles in that fight based off his movement.

And honestly you can't compare that hooks and uppercuts DC landed in the clinch while holding Gus's head down to the jabs Gus landed at distance.

cormier isn't as great as he thinks he is, Jon Jones wooped his ass twice, Gustafsson beat him and AJ threw their second fight

When did gus’ knees give out from those clinch punches or when did he drop? They are good strikes but giving them more weight than they have is ridiculous

Gus was moving backwards the entire fight, if he was moving backwards cause he was hurt then he has the greatest poker face in mma while simultaneously having the worst recovery ever, he was avoiding dc trying to clinch him, again moving backward does not lose you the round when the rounds are scored on effective striking, the impact and significance of the strikes landed, gus landed a bunch of very good strikes in the 4th. If dc had long straight hair it would move too, are you scoring hair length in the fight?

48-47 Cormier

Round 2 was the hardest to score..flip flopped a few times before giving to Cormier...

Daniel out worked and out landed Alex for more rounds... Those uppercuts were money..

Rounds 3 and 4 were Gus's ..

...great fight...

Atleast you watched it which I appreciate, but obviously I disagree as I think the cut and the takedown won gus a close striking round

Gus lost both fights …

He’s known for losing close fights but he did lose them

In fact that’s all he’s known for … and crying In front of his home crowd

If I could have improved Gus in some way, it would have been to turn his hip over into a good Thai kick.

I LOVED watching him.
His pace and boxing style still is very unique. Unfortunately, he was also around with the three powerhouses (including Rumble).

Being razor close on two occasions, I can only assume it was deflation beyond imagining.

Agreed with the SD judges that scored it 49-46 DC.

It wasn't very close, though it was definitely a good fight.
It was extremely close, the closest round was round 2 where gus cut dc open and took him down. The sherdog judges gave DC the round where he got knocked down and nearly finished, they’re not to be trusted. Then in the 4th gus outstruck him clearly

Those are the reports all the way to page 12 on google.

The best one had it a Draw for Gus and all the others for DC.

Gus Jones I was closer than DC Gus.

It was a great fight but to say Gus won is a huge stretch. It would've been an absolute robbery if he had gotten the nod.

At most, being very lenient, he won 2 rounds.

DCs saving grace is moving forward, which again was not the main method of scoring fights back then, and jones outstruck gus in all but one round, including by 10 in the round where gus landed a takedown for 10 seconds. You cannot give gus 3 rounds against jones
You're right, I gave him 4 rounds.

Nothing DC did in the 3rd round should have given him that round, but obviously something did. It wasn’t some flash knockdown where dc was slightly tapped by a jab and slipped, immediately popping back up, he was clearly massively affected and couldn’t even stand when it happened. And that’s how you know some people just let their bias take over, cause 50-45 scorecards do exist out there by some people
From what I remember, DC had full control of the clinch and was blasting Gus with uppercut and won over 4 minutes of the round, and after Gus dropped him with the knee, DC was almost immediately on the single and working his way back up. But it was a while ago since I saw it, so I can't be too certain, but I am  fairly certain Gus never had the opportunity to take advantage of it by staying on top and raining down strikes or anything to threaten a fight end

Classic fight, big fan of both guys and DC rightfully got the nod in a razor close fight.
