If person 4 sees person 9 with a gun out taking cover or firing at someone how would they know if that is a good guy or a bad guy? Now imagine the same situation but with cops running in- there are 13 people with weapons drawn taking cover, moving tactically, firing, etc. how do you expect the cops to know in that instance who’s the bad guy?

A lot of people put a lot of time and money into training how to shoot properly and assess situations amd threats not to mention all the vets out there who also know ehat they are doing. You can actually pay money to train this as well as well as some free ones depending on the range. Like all them dudes are all drawing and moving on the same target can see they are all doing the same thing and can communicate with each other. We don't have a lot of situations with good guys with guns shooting each other for a reason. You can find a case here and there I know it's happened at least once but for a multitude of reasons that isn't how shootings where the bad guy gets taken out play out. You seem to be assuming everyone with a gun is already a moron who has no idea what they are doing...

The cops also are getting real life descriptions and info in real time. Shooter black metallica shirt with black rifle ...update chubby dad with a beard and a soccer mom in a purple dress seem to have shot the shooter with handguns. So they kind of have an idea of what is going down when they get on scene sometimes more sometimes less.


Again shit isn't perfect but there aren't a lot of mistakes being made in live shooting situations either like you are asking about with crossfire and mistaken identity . Like a big what about that statistically is a nothing burger.

Statistically the large majority of gun owners never attended any sort of advanced training. 85% of the us military is never in a combat role or sees combat. Im not trusting that some dude who swung a weed whacker around the base for 4 years is going to be a crack shot with that pistol he carries.

Im not suggesting 12 people all together in the same area giving each other the nod and hand signals. Im saying if there’s 500 people in the mall spread out in all directions and levels and they start creeping around weapons out after hearing shots they aren’t going to know who’s who.

The chance you take if you carry in a situation like that is you will be mistaken as the shooter and killed by the police.

However that chance is very small since most likely it will all be over by the time the police get there.
