Also, surprised no one has mentioned Carlos Santana yet.
Prince
dude, john mayer can really shred. i much prefer john mayer trio over his solo stuff.
The first two Santana albums are classics, but his playing gets really stale after awhile. I'll never deny that the dude has great tone and can sustain notes a long ass time (for playing a PRS solidbody).
Oh I 100% agree. I went to a concert with the ex wife a few years ago and was shocked at how good he was. He is VERY good live.
I know a lot do not listen to country, but my experience with Mayer was the same as with Keith Urban. Very shocked at how good he was.
I haven't taken the plunge to see Mayer live yet, but I've checked out his more guitar-centric stuff on YT before. Really, really good.
Has James Hettfield been mentioned yet? He's not ultra technical, but no one faults him for it and everyone says he is really good at doing his thing.
Its funny because Hammett is technically a much better player, but he catches so much more crap than Hettfield.Compared to Hammett he is a real jabroni, if you ask me.
Layla was Derek and the Dominos not Cream.
Eric Clapton is a little bit of a hack. For at least half his career he was consistently boring.
Eric Clapton is a hack?
I'd like to hear you support this statement.
Well aware of that. Didn't mean to conflate the two. Just two examples of when Eric Clapton was awesome.
A challenger appears!
