Guess how much UFC fighters can bench press?

Think you're lowballing all of them. If I'd have to wager a guess I would say the majority of heavyweights can bench in the high 300's. If I'm not mistaken even Matt Hughes was able to bench somewhere in that area. Overeem has to be benching 400 at least... saw a training video not too long ago of him repping 275. Ngannou has to be somewhere around there as well.

But who the fuck cares ultimately. Tank Abbot could bench a fucking ford escort but got his ass kicked on the regular.

I'm a powerlifting competitor so I know Cro Cop had a few training sessions with Srele Brutal Team powerlifting club in Croatia and he benched 170kg (375) touch and go (with no pause on chest, but touching the chest with the bar.
In powerlifting circles that is not impressive for his bodyweight, but being a fighter it's certanly good.

An elite bench would be 2 x bw bench RAW and more.
I'd say that's pretty impressive indeed for a non powerlifter of his build.

You’d be surprised how little your favorite fighters can bench.

All the cardiovascular training destroys your lifts.

So? At most they would want to bench a little higher than their weight division...

lol..I'm a featherweight that benches 225 lbs but I still get owned by a guy experienced in sambo/bjj for 8 years that can't even bench a 100lbs
OK I mean that is neither here nor there. I know Alistair is benching more than me. So thanks for the attempted insight I guess

Lmao bench means fuck all.
Military press, deadlifts and squats are the real functional type muscle building lifts. These lifts measure tfue strength. Not bench.
Make your own thread about functional streangth phaggit

I wasn't expecting such an informative post in what I thought would surely be a shit thread.

Bench has no correlation to any physical activity you'd ever do in real life. When would one use a bench press type movement? When a car rolls on top of you while you're lying down? Lmao it just seems like one of the least practical exercises that a lot of guys seem to be obsessed about.

Stipe - 315
DC - 330
Ngannou - 405
Overeem - 330
Lewis - 365
Yoel - 315
Rockhold - 275
Bones - 295
Tank Abbot - 550
Do you mean for multiple reps or a 1 rep max? Ngannou's and Abbott's seems close to being right. But I'd like to think some of these guys can do a little more. I suppose they are not necessarily training for super strength though.

Get that powerlifting shit out of here.

I'd expect most fighters to bench "surprisingly" low simply because I don't think most fighters train for the specific movement. Benching is something you have to really invest time in to get it right and max your numbers. MMA fighters aren't concerned with getting big lifts, if they do lift then mainly to support their movements in the ring and not the other way around.

Things like bench press or powerlifting isn't really efficient training for fighting so fighters don't do it I'd imagine.

Thats cause he is more experience obviously. Not because he is stronger. Maybe he has more functional strength though. I am not sure. Anyone that says lifting weights doesnt help with strength is a retard. Yea bodybuilding type workouts wont help. But funtional strength exercises would help you get stronger and more powerful without a doubt.

Reem trained strongman so im sure he is strong enough.

Having a strong press off your back is useful in fighting, far better than having a weak press off your back and being stuck in 3/4 mount
(Yes you obviously don't need a strong bench to have good technical bjj, but it only helps)

No one will convince me that Reem's bench press is only 330. I could bench 300 when I was 22. I weighed 180 lbs and was clean as a whistle. My buddy could bench 340 in high school, weighing around 190. (In hindsight, he was like juiced to the gills, but nevertheless, he was 17).

Rockhold is surprising, too... but I have known guys to look like that and not be able to push what you would expect.

Stipe just looks like a big strong guy who has never really put any effort into increasing his bench press strength, or anything other sort of powerlifting motion. I'm sure he could be doing 400 within a year if he felt any reason to try.

Exactly lmao. Spot on. Deadlifts, military press, overhead press, squats, pull ups are the real deal.
