**GSP confirms contract negotiations with UFC**

The idea that the UFC would offer or suggest that GSP, the UFC cash cow for years and one of the biggest stars ever in MMA should ever accept a shitty 40 grand per fight for sponsor money from Reebok is a hilarious joke.. GSP made like 4-5 mil per fight and he is going to accept 40 grand?? Yeah okay Dana..
GSP lost to Hendricks. He is no longer the champ.

GSP/Lawler would be biggest WW fight of all time.. And I still think he is looking at that possible Anderson fight. Better late than never..

Did Gsp fight out his last contract?

When GSP went on hiatus, Dana said he still had years or fights left on his deal. But that's from Dana's mouth, so take it for what it's worth. We do know however that the UFC made every fighter sign a new contract w/ the stipulation about only wearing Reebok during fight week when the Reebok deal was finalized.

lol like that's even a possibility. Bellator couldn't even afford to talk with Reem because his starting point for negotiations was already to high. Now you have someone like GSP who is worth even more. Bellator can't even afford to talk to GSP let a lone pay him to fight.
You realize Viacom owns Bellator

GSP is one of the rare guys that is in a position to change things. I'm hoping he works something that benefits every fighter and not just some individual deal for himself.

He doesn't need to come back so if he does, make the sport better.

GSP has sold more PPV than any WW fighting today. If he has a comeback fight it will sell HUGE. You may not equate that with excitement but it means fans want to see him fight.
I'm aware of GSP's popularity. I was speaking of the quality of his fights. Before he retired a lot of fans gave him tons of grief for never trying to finish his opponent, and fighting very safe. I suppose absence really does make the heart grow fonder. I'm just not looking forward to him 50-45ing Lawler, but to each his own.

You realize they are paying fighters 1,000. Why didn't they get Reem? Why not sterling? He barely got a raise. So much for Viacom money.

UFC is worth maybe 6 billion? One of the owners alone Sumner Redstone of Viacom his net worth is 6.4 billion. He could buy the UFC by himself. He owns large portions of Mtv,bet, cbs,Viacom, and paramount pictures.

Damn you Reebok!!!!

I wonder how Reebok feels about this?
They have to know that this deal has only been viewed negatively in every way by MMA fans.
The same fanbase they were hoping to sell to.
Lol I always wonder about this to, they can't be happy, they've been shit on by all the fans, media, even fighters who are forced to wear their products.

But also seeing how little they paid in retrospect to what fighters were getting for sponsors before (guys like Schuab getting 100k+) they got off with murder for having their logo plastered everywhere on the cheap.

It's hard to say how they think it's gone, we'd have to see their sale numbers to really make a decision.

But it has. Not so much in PPV buys perhaps, but it's all about the big fights now, not titles. And those fights pay much more that GSP ever got and he now has a chance to be on that tier with Ronda and Conor. You think he's gonna say no? Fuck the title, he'll be rich. He just has to play his cards right and I think that's what he's doing.
He's not fighting for glory anymore.

But it really hasn't. Do you know how much GSP used to make? It really wasn't that much less then Conor. He'll be rich? He already is rich. He has said so many times. You are making it sound like GSP was pulling a few hundred thousand a fight.

But yes, if he plays his cards right he can get maybe the biggest pay day ever. But it wouldn't be the first big pay day for him.

I understood why the UFC set up such a deal but once the numbers were reported, we all knew it was going to be a problem. Why not set up a pay scale based on the PPV sales or TV ratings of said fight. Not just a blank number of 40 grand for a champion no matter what? So GSP fights on a PPV that sells over 1 mil and he gets only 40 grand from Reebok. That is fucking offensive..

Viacom has Bellator on a budget. They have several other things they would rather drop money on then Bellator

Yet they are paying fighters $1,000. These guys sound way worse then anything the UFC is doing. They wont even talk to Reem and they wont even bid on sterling. They can have all the money in the world they clearly have no intentions of spending it on MMA.
