She's autistic. It's a developmental disorder. She's not "retarded" nor is she mentally ill. People with high functioning autism can be highly intelligent and accomplished in some cases. It can be considered a disability, but it's not a black/white issue. I think the narrative that she doesn't have any agency and is being ruthlessly exploited by her parents is a false one.

With all due respect, you have a poor understanding of high functioning autism and Greta seems to have more of a mastery of the English language than you do, despite it not being her main language. She's not mentally handicapped, she has a developmental disorder which causes a social deficit, but still allows for high intelligence and reasoning. I would wager that her IQ is higher than yours and many of the people here who disparage her.

There's some discrepancy between whether Asperger's is a distinct form of high functioning autism or not, but yes, I believe that was her original diagnosis.
