Interesting interview with Mike Daniels. The only way anything changes is if Gute, LaFluer and Murphy are all fired.
Without listening to it, because it's late and Daniels is probably biased as hell (even though he didn't do shit after leaving, just like most others that were let go by Gute...). LaFleur is a good coach on the offense for sure and usually also a good play caller. Almost every other possible candidate would have his flaws as well, what is inexusable is that stubborn sticking with Joe fucking Barry, who ALWAYS had shitty defenses everywhere he's been DC, who knows what other incompetent coaches LaFleur keeps around because he likes them. He needs to fix that, otherwise he will get fired over it. But be careful what you wish for. Rodgers badly wanted McDaniels back then, by the way.
Gute had a couple of bad drafts but knocked it out of the park in the last two, also seems like you can definitely win with Love and he still has some room to improve perfectly fixable issues (especially when the offense is healthy). Many, many other GMs are absolute dogshit compared to Gutekunst, he rarely ever had the chance to draft high yet, he only once had the cap space to make splash signings and that was a legit great haul. Most GMs during his tenure did less with more.
The Seahawks win over Philly all but locks the Packers out of the post season.
Daniels said something interesting about how the mentality with 12 back in the day was "just get him the ball back" and how the defense was never expected to carry the load. That type of thinking has to change, unless Love becomes elite and can carry a team. If he can't, then I don't see many deep post-season runs in the future. I'm no Joe Barry apologist, but with so many first round picks invested in the defense, the guy shouldn't have to do much if most of these guys were legit. Barry needs to go, no questions asked. But the team has gone through 2 coordinators since Capers and still the product on the field is average at best.
That's absolutely true. All those first round picks include Walker and Wyatt, who aren't total busts but definitely haven't shown to be worth those picks, van Ness who's a project (but getting better), Jaire who's hurt all the time, Savage who's at best average, Stokes was obviously injured for a long time and I hope he didn't lose his athleticism. Douglas was a good find but was traded already (which I still agree with tbh), Campbell hasn't sniffed his All Pro level since that season, Safety room is a joke.
They have to find a proper Nickel because Nixon isn't full time starter level, one legit good Safety and likely take a deep look at the CB market in the draft again. We might see yet another CB in the first round guys lol. Should try to find the Safety in FA.
I have no idea how the cap situation will look, maybe one decently sized deal is possible? Or a couple of medium ones? I'd try to go Nickel and Safety in FA, rest in the draft.I'm not gonna be too unhappy with another first round corner. They tend to perform pretty well for the first few years, then flame out, lol.
The team has a lot of holes to fill to become a legit contender again, so I'm really hoping for best player available early in the draft.
