Got smashed by a Judoka

I agree. People who have good Judo and wrestling exeprience should at least start in blue. I don't understand why they would want to even fight in white. I still fight in blue, sometimes purple. If I win my division and there is a higher skill division there, I feel kind of shitty. Because there is a whole other division of people supposedly better than you. I guess not everyone competes to test themselves.
Unless they dont know where they belong.
It makes sense as a FIRST time sub grappler to enter the novice division but if you sweep the division and then enter it again next time, then youre a bum!

Maybe..... I guess that is what I did for no gi. I entered the beginners division my first time.

Yeah, seems like that BB judoka is a pussy for being in your division. Regardless though, a black belt judoka is supposively comparable to the ground skills of a purple belt in BJJ. So pretty much you fought someone way advanced then you so don't take it to heart.

It's always amusing to me how much more formalized and overvalued black belts are here in the West than in Asia. Although the training regimens and the commitment are vastly different, if you can't get a first dan in Asia in under 2-3 years, regardless of the martial art, you're either undercommitted or there's something wrong with you.

I got my shodan in Judo via competition and batsugan all in a few months span from the time I formally started Judo.

As for the guy who mentioned flying armbars being illegal in judo comps, that's wrong.

the guy who win in under 73 is not just an olympian black belt judoka he is also
a purpel belt in bjj and his name is hasan mosa

2 months of bjj and already in a competition, man you got balls.
Damn right. I've changed my mind somewhat about guys that jump right in to competition without that much training. Their either:
1. Brave
2. Confident
3. Stupid
4. Just plain f'n crazy!

I must be no 2 on that list, because I tap out almost every white belt that I train with, except for the white belts that are on the edge to blue.

I entered my first competition with only 1 month experience simply because I wanted more experience. I didn't care about winning. Competitions are not valuable for the hardware you may win but for the training done to prepare for them. They not only provide a test against unknown people, but I learn the most during the practices leading up to tournaments.

As an added bonus, you can network with many people and learn about opportunities you can't easily find elsewhere. I learned about some of the best places to train from people I met at tournaments. I still attend some of them now.

I don't think I'll learn much from tournaments, but like Frodo said: I too learn the most to the practices leading to tourny. I don't see as a tourny as a learning experience, only the first time. I do the competing to represent my school and win.

I'm not saying that I disagree with it it. Like I said, I changed my mind about it. I think it's a good idea for the experience.
