Gordon Ryan vs Felipe Pena

There’s a lot going on here it seems behind the scenes

Nothing "interesting" about that, it's complete bullshit. Pena laughs and jokes about before the match, then goes on to fight 30 minutes because "he's forced to", despite not wanting to fight. Then.......... continues fighting for 15 extra minutes?

The cope is real.

pena was laughing and joking up to like 20 mins.

the death of a friend excuse is very convenient.

You do weird things when times are tough, he could have been psyching himself up just to compete; once the adrenaline ran out, his will went with it.

Gordon got the takedowns but not much else. The takedowns and couple of sweeps didn't lead to anything better... It only got better for Gordon when Pena started gassing

No, the takedowns, sweeps, etc did lead to something better. It made Pena work and gas. Pena didn't gas out from magic, he got wore down and used up his gas tank while Gordon kept turning up the pressure as the match went on.

Yeah, this is what the haters are clinging to now. The other thing they are saying is Gordon is on PEDs (apparently forgetting Pena just failed a test in June). If this didn't happen they would have had something else. "Pena had a bad piece of toast for breakfast!"

the ending is disappointing and he's a douche for robbing ryan of a legit finish... but let's not pretend getting news of your friend getting shot in the head and killed is insignificant.

i have no idea how close they were, but i could understand pena not being exactly pumped to fight with images of leandro shot in the head flashing in his mind. if they were actually close, that is.

and i think gordon would've had a lot more fans if he just took the high road once every now and then.

The stream I was watching was really hard to hear.

Did Gordon mention anything about Leandro Lo in his post fight interview?

Maybe it did affect him. But nobody here knows how. For all we know, it could've been a positive impact, "I'm going to win this for Leandro." Or not. Either way, pointless to try to take anything away from Gordon because of it.

And either way, none of that has anything to do with those silly rumors about him being forced to fight for 30 minutes and then deciding to continue for 14 more minutes for no reason.

Yes, the takedowns and sweeps gassed Pena, but Pena was already mentally gassed just competing.
You can't expect someone to perform well after finding out their friend got their skull popped by a handgun. Pena agreed to fight because he felt compelled to, not because he wanted to.

Do I think Gordon is a better grappler? In no-gi, absolutely. But he's not so good where he can talk smack when compared to other grapplers who have proven more, longer, and in varied styles, gi, MMA etc....

Exhaustion makes cowards out of men. Few things are more lame in jiujitsu than to quit from exhaustion, without just owning it. If you own it, then fine; no shame whatsoever in losing. We're all human. If you make excuses though, it's kinda pathetic. And if what Gordon said is true -- if Pena asked for more money the day of, using Leandro as the reason -- then that's downright disgusting.

is there no situation in which he doesn't come off as a douche?

i've never heard anyone claim so many times that they're the greatest ever and simultaneously always whine how they're a victim in some way, and how their shitty behavior is really someone else's fault.

i don't follow the sport at all anymore, come back for a week to get pumped for this match, and every single interview or preview, gordon is whinging about being snubbed, not being respected, being avoided, yada yada yada.

incredible competitor, it's a fucking treat to watch him roll, he's on a trajectory to be the greatest ever without the gi, and he's making it look easy... and yet he's still such an insufferable fucking man child.

Ironically though his shit talking /posting adds views /eyes to the sport. That’s unfortunately the way the modern world works . He’s the “ bad boy” of the world. Not the way I like it but is what it is.

So why hasn't Gordon competed in the gi against these guys?(even though he said he be world champ in GI) they competed in his main realm why can't he? Does that make Gordon a $$&&+_?

And we won't even talk about him walking back mma comment.
Idk, I just posted what he said on IG, I'm not his manager nor do I care if he does gi or not

I only care when he doesn't compete against the guys he beat in GI. You don't have bigger balls then guys who compete in both, and have actually won at the highest level in both.

I still remember the time where he actually sign up for a ibjff match at blackbelt. He pulled out when he saw Muhammad Aly and DJ Jackson sign up in his division, Gordon pulled out immediately and gave an excuse just like pena did. Gordon is no different lol
