Gordon Ryan slaps Andre Galvao UPDATE: Andre speaks outch

Jiu jitsu is very watered down. Nowadays the sports top athletes look to exploit the rules as much as possible by the fact there’s no punching involved. You see the competitors do stuff that would get their head punched in.

you are a moron. During a peak time in his BJJ career he went to MMA

https://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Andre-Galvao-36876

His 2 losses are a split decision to 23-8 Jason High who is a dangerous well rounded fighter and an ass whupping to a prime, future UFC Champ material Tyrone Woodley.

He defeated dangerous strikers like John Alessio and well rounded higher ranked fighters like Luke Stewart

By your logic, wrestlers & judokas would get their heads punched In doing their sports that does not allow strikes

boxers and muay thai fighters would get killed because everything they do would lead to them getting clinched and taken down easily

Where did I say anything specifically about Andres skills? I was talking generally.

yes i get that. what i'm saying is, any other sport didn't have the specific philosophy of not to meet force with force, but to yield to your opponent's force and take what he gives you to defeat him. let's compare it to wrestling. i don't have a problem with the Brock Lesnar's of the world who most likely were roiding from high school. why? because wrestling's philosophy, from the beginning of time, has always been about manipulating your opponents through physical strength and peak conditioning. getting as jacked and as strong as possible makes sense for wrestlers, after all that's the philosophy behind their art.

but how can i take these BJJ guys seriously now a days when they're basically going against their own martial arts' philosophy? they're over there trying to sell BJJ classes with "strength doesn't matter" quotes while the guy telling you these things looks like a shaved silverback gorilla.
No argument here

Is the majority view that this incident was fake and scripted? Don't know too much about it but I didn't get that impression watching it.

On second watch I doubt it was scripted.

How do so many fight fans know so little about grappling? Just because someone learns the sport techniques doesn’t mean they don’t still know the basics. Gary Tonon is doing Really well in one, aioki has been a very good fighter for like 15 years too. I think bjj players can learn a lot from aioki who simplified his game in recent years similar to Maia now, but I will agree a lot of bjj guys are dorks. Pressure passing and body lock passing are big in grappling now which is cool, but the two guys playing leg lock is the worst, I will agree with anyone on that.

A lot don't have good basics but Danaher makes them learn the basics backward and forward before getting into his systems.

Galvao has been ducking Gordon Ryan for a long time. I guess he needs the money now.

Galvao accepting a match with Gordon is like Jon Jones fighting at HW. It has been talked about for years, teased, but never happens. Maybe both finally will, we'll see.

It wasn't scripted but sounds like Galvao is now trying to say that is how he was trying to promote the fight. I think it's more like he got humiliated but doesn't want to fight Gordon, so he had to come up with a rescuing device.

Idk who is on the right. Gordon seems like he can really be a hothead but based on what he says in the vid below, the tense moments which specifically led to the slap was started by Andre.
