Gordon Ryan explains why Sambo > BJJ in MMA

Why does BJJ have to be “world level” to be a dangerous skillset?

Seems a like rudimentary knowledge of submission defense negates a disproportionate amount of BJJ skill.

Not trying to be rude or ignorant, but it seems that way to me.

Sambo is very wrestling oriented, which has always been a dominant skillset in MMA.

I love how Gordon gives an answer everyone agrees with, but all 75% of people in the thread focus on is when he added they aren't fighting people with world-level BJJ skill... that doesn't mean everything he said before that is completely negated lol, he just added that in because most casuals probably think Oliveira has world-class BJJ

Yeah anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of BJJ lmao, that's why every MMA fighter has a BJJ coach and does BJJ regularly

It's kinda funny that if ANYONE else here said EXACTLY what gordon said, people would just shit on them. Everyone just operates based on credentials, rather than logic

No. Combat Sambo is the same as Pankration. Does it look like a BJJ to you?

Oliveira does have world class BJJ for MMA.

Word on the street is that Gordon couldn't put his striking together.

Even if he could, he makes more money doing bjj than he would doing MMA unless he got to that Conor level. The selfish part of me wishes BJJ money sucked so they would have to go to MMA, but in the long run it will cause MMA money to rise.
