Standing up to Muslim extremists, abolishing the IRS, and throwing out the income tax code and put in a Flat Tax (which is the #1 thing we could do to bring this country into an economic golden age). And of course he'd throw out Obamacare, allow health insurance to be sold across state lines.

It's going to be a gem to watch him in the debates.

I could go on and on, and I've studied Rand's policies as well but he's alienated his father's inherited supporters, and I don't see him connecting to the different groups he means to as well as he intends.

If Rand eventually drops out and supports Cruz, it's going to be interesting to see how the media, democrats, and establishment republicans could possibly stop Cruz. Because a Cruz nomination against any Democrat on the horizon is their worst-case-senario.

It takes five minutes to understand a flat tax isn't reasonable. The brackets we have a our sensible. I never understood the obsession with abolishing the IRS either. So we are just going to stop doing taxes?

It still amazes me that people still credit Cruz for shutting down the government... think about it. He's a 1st term Senator in his first year in office, yet he alone circumvented the entire congress, senate, and white house to shut down the entire government. Kinda makes them seem pretty incompetent, doesn't it?

And polls against raising the debt ceiling were overwhelmingly against it, so Cruz has that on his side. But there's also polls against shutting down the government against it as well, which happen to leave out the reason for shutting down the government... isn't that convenient?

Flat tax would lead to one or more of these things
A) More national debt
B) A crisis among senior citizens not having monthly income to live off of
C) People below the poverty line struggling more via paying the flat tax

He just brought up "other senators" who want to increase defense spending without offsetting it with cuts.
 
How fast did he have to spit out..."I may not touch Social Security..." The 3rd rail of politics. Unfortunately it will eventually collapse unless we get more people working in this country and paying into it. I am not counting on it when I retire even though I have paid in.

It will be there. We just definitely will be getting it at 70-72 instead of where it is now. People are living way longer than when the system was put in place. They never tried to make a system that could allow you to retire and live 30 years, ha.

I'm really loving Rand right now, but I would still like to hear from Cruz and Huckabee. (If he runs)

Honestly, I don't really know a whole lot about Cruz, but after reading what you've said here, he sounds like a promissing candidate. I will definitely keep an eye out on him.






So if Rand or Cruz makes it that far, who would like like to see as their VP candidate? Would it be possible to see a Rand/Cruz ticket?

Cruz and Rand have far more policies in common, than opposing viewpoints.

And they're friends, though Rand threw a soft jab at Cruz by pointing out at Cruz's announcement speech the crowd was required to attend (college students at Liberty University) and saying he's more electable in the general election. Rand also stole (IE offered more money) to Cruz's online donation director, which seems alittle dirty to me.

Cruz has already stated he's not going to run any negative ads against any Republican. If Rand runs negitive ads against Cruz, that's VERY dirty.

Republican presidential nomination races have became very dirty in the last few cycles. Theoretically, it's to demonstrate how they'd lead an aggressive campaign against the Democrat nominee, but that hasn't worked out recently. Both McCain and Romney ran negative ads against Republican opponents, then led very timid campaigns against Obama in the general election.

Anyway, the first negative ad.... I should use the word deceitful... ad, I see from a Republican, I'm pulling my support. Ads should say why you're better, while not blasting the opposition in a manipulative way, as in cherry-picking facts or playing quotes out of context.

So if Rand or Cruz makes it that far, who would like like to see as their VP candidate? Would it be possible to see a Rand/Cruz ticket?

Historically, when a Republican wins the nomination the most effective VP picks that help in the general have been an elected position in a tough battleground state. So, as tough as it is for me to say this, Jeb Bush would be a great VP candidate to not only guarantee FL to go red, but also satisfy moderates and establishment Republicans in Washington, but would bring in alot of fund raising.

As for whoever between Rand or Cruz doesn't win, they'd be a big asset to the new administration as the Senate majority leader. The new President could have alot of pull to make that happen, hopefully.

Oh Lead Salad, I fully intend on responding to the points you bring up about the flat tax, I'm just busy as hell.

A dozen or so possible Republican presidential candidates are set to speak in Nashville on Friday at the National Rifle Association's annual convention — but the lineup is missing two big names.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, who formally announced his run for president on Tuesday, won't be attending this year's NRA meeting as special guests.

Neither were invited to addresses the NRA's Leadership Forum, NRA officials confirmed to The Tennessean.

"We have a really lengthy program and we have the longest list of potential presidential candidates to speak at the Leadership Forum this go-around, and we just could not accommodate everyone," said Jennifer Baker, director of public affairs for the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action.

Paul, who announced his candidacy for president from Louisville on Tuesday, is prepared this week to go on a five-day tour of early primary and caucus states New Hampshire, South Carolina, Iowa and Nevada. He's been rated favorably by the NRA in the past.

In addition to the NRA extending invitations, Baker said some of the group's scheduled speakers approached the NRA about speaking, but Paul was not among them.

Christie, meanwhile, was given a "C" by the NRA in 2013, prior to his re-election. Earlier that year, Christie blasted the NRA for airing what he called a "reprehensible" television ad that mentioned the daughters of President Barack Obama.

Christie is understandable and expected, but Paul being snubbed must have been a marker called in by the neo-cons, as he's a party line guy when it comes to guns. I mean if they have room for Trump, Carson and Palin and not Paul - there is a message there.

Yea, that's really odd. The NRA has become highly politicized so not surprising. Beck and Nordquist had a feud recently.

Yeah, seems weird to me. Rand has a good stance on guns and you'd think the NRA would be cool with him.


So Trump is there this year? God I hope he runs for the pure fact that the debates would be hilarious. (But I highly....HIGHLY....doubt he'll run. He's just making noise.)
