If Rand's polls are going down, I wonder who most of that base is jumping ship to.
 
Of course Rand is losing his father's base. He has hedged on every position he's ever taken. He is practically the exact opposite of his father.
 
The "Rand losing his father's base" is just another narrative driven by the same media that brickwalled his father's campaign. Maybe he loses the Alex Jones / Robes Pierrie contingent of the libertarians; oh well...

Where he "really stands" doesn't really matter if his actions are neocon.

It's like Obama during his first term. A lot of his progressive apologists where saying that he "really stood" on the left, despite the increase of troops in Afghanistan, the appointment of insiders on regulatory committees, etc.

Both Bush and Walker surged when Rand's polls declined but I'm not really sure if that is the cause. My guess is the race is in the news more now and other names are starting to get attention. I think Rand's base knew he was going to run for a long time.

I highly doubt early Rand Paul supporters jumped ship over to Bush.

Maybe Walker.

It's hard to take polls, looking for people that used to be for a candidate.

There was a poll in one of these links a few pages back that explained who would the voters most likely go with if their first candidate wasn't in the race. It had some interesting stuff to it. The thing that stood out is Walker was generally liked as a backup to almost each candidate.

True. He's my backup, as long as he's not launching bullshit ads on opponents.

But Rand's princliples, or rather what used to be his principles, don't line up much with Walker.

So, I guess they're jumping ship to who they consider to have the most incommon with their views, with the highest chance to win.

If any party wants to clearly win they have to talk about America only. Every Republican in office sees everyone outside the US as a threat and have a mapped out war chest for who's next if any of them are voted in. I want to see the first Republican concentrate on the US and it's problems only. We have a TON thanks to hundreds of years of BS.

For Jeb, its senior citizens. They are destroying the damn party because the GOP has had to cater to them and never changed message for newer voters. I've seen some old ladies that fit the stereotype in my head so well. They talk about how charming the establishment guy is and have little to nothing to say about issues other than he isn't going to take my SS/medicare away.

I think he is my back up also. He's managed to position himself as the alternative establishment guy to Jeb even though he really isn't establishment other than being perceived as electable.
 
So between Cruz and Paul, who would you guys vote for? I'm wondering how this will play out. Wondering if Carson actually gets in the mix and is able to split the vote even more.

Cruz is my #1 right now.

1st in his class in Princeton, 1st at Harvard Law, and their debate team captain. Some leftist professor praised him as one of the smartest students he's ever had. James Carville said he's the most fearless and smartest Republican he's seen in 30 years.

Standing up to Muslim extremists, abolishing the IRS, and throwing out the income tax code and put in a Flat Tax (which is the #1 thing we could do to bring this country into an economic golden age). And of course he'd throw out Obamacare, allow health insurance to be sold across state lines.

It's going to be a gem to watch him in the debates.

I could go on and on, and I've studied Rand's policies as well but he's alienated his father's inherited supporters, and I don't see him connecting to the different groups he means to as well as he intends.

If Rand eventually drops out and supports Cruz, it's going to be interesting to see how the media, democrats, and establishment republicans could possibly stop Cruz. Because a Cruz nomination against any Democrat on the horizon is their worst-case-senario.
 
Cruz' own peers can't stand the guy, but the larger electorate will just love him? He's the smartest guy in the room that knows it and can't hide the fact that he knows it. He also can't fake empathy worth a shit. Nor will his "shut down Government to get his own way" tantrum will play well when he's pining for the top executive job in the country.

His debate skills will be near valueless in what passes as Presidential debates these days anyways.

Cruz's 'peers' are establisment Republicans that have publicly criticized him more in his two years of office, than they ever criticized Obama in 6 years. I count that piece of info as an asset for his campaign, not a liability.

It still amazes me that people still credit Cruz for shutting down the government... think about it. He's a 1st term Senator in his first year in office, yet he alone circumvented the entire congress, senate, and white house to shut down the entire government. Kinda makes them seem pretty incompetent, doesn't it?

And polls against raising the debt ceiling were overwhelmingly against it, so Cruz has that on his side. But there's also polls against shutting down the government against it as well, which happen to leave out the reason for shutting down the government... isn't that convenient?
