It might be the fact they are libertarian which would mean some social issues could be seen as far left.

Yeah, that's why I'd want to see their criteria. I mean, is non-interventionism a far left value? Decriminalizing drugs? Those have always seemed to me to be small government values (right-wing) that are somehow more prevalent in the left. But you are right that that is probably the answer.

*Edit, just saw Shoeless' reply, ignore my redundancy.

oh for god sake! TED CRUZ ISNT AMERICAN!!!! He's a fucking Canadian, what the fuck!

The point was should Shivao be put down if her parents wanted to continue being her caregiver. If the entire family agreed and it was simply the state coming in saying no, don't do this, it would be far easier but that wasn't the case.

The parents had no standing. The government had no standing. The husband was legally empowered to make a decision and everyone interfered because Jesus.

Even if the family had a legal right to at least have the courts review it, ok. But the way Jeb and GW interfered was scandalous. Jeb even asked law enforcement to see if he could press charges against the husband. Jeb acted like a total right wing cook in that case, which is why I think the crazies should like him more. Of course it is never enough, the right won't turned on him when he would not go full Florida, even though he came very close.

Marco Rubio: Ted Cruz gave me early notice of presidential run

Sen. Ted Cruz surprised many political observers by becoming the first official presidential candidate for 2016 on Monday. But not Sen. Marco Rubio.
Rubio (R-Fla.) said he got a heads-up from his conservative colleague last week that the announcement was forthcoming, and Rubio praised Cruz (R-Texas) several times during a lengthy gaggle with Capitol Hill reporters on Monday afternoon.

But Rubio also pointed out that Cruz didn

Ted Cruz's big-money crisis
150323_cruzmoney_gty_1160_1160x629.jpg

After the theatrical launch of his presidential campaign Monday, Sen. Ted Cruz now faces a massive hurdle: raising the tens of millions of dollars it will take to mount a year-and-a-half long campaign.
The Texas Republican and tea party darling is months behind his competitors in recruiting the megadonors and bundlers essential to a credible GOP primary bid. He

We don't want him, you guys can keep Hispanic Harper.

It's weird because I feel like Cruz's demeanor and divisiveness is the exact opposite of what I'd expect from Canada. I bet they're glad he didn't grow up to pursue a career in politics there.

I don't think he would have done well up here, I'm actually impressed he did so well in Texas, but Alberta is really the Texas of Canada. His birthplace will definitely get a lot of offhand remarks if anyone gives him credit as a contender though.

More corruption from Walker:

https://www.yahoo.com/politics/wisconsin-gov-scott-walker-photo-charlie-114429739886.html

So a little more than three years ago, when Menard wanted to back Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker — and help advance his pro-business agenda — he found the perfect way to do so without attracting any attention: He wrote more than $1.5 million in checks to a pro-Walker political advocacy group that pledged to keep its donors secret, three sources directly familiar with the transactions told Yahoo News.

Menard’s previously unreported six-figure contributions to the Wisconsin Club for Growth — a group that spent heavily to defend Walker during a bitter 2012 recall election — seem to have paid off for the businessman and his company. In the past two years, Menard’s company has been awarded up to $1.8 million in special tax credits from a state economic development corporation that Walker chairs, according to state records.

And in his five years in office, Walker’s appointees have sharply scaled back enforcement actions by the state Department of Natural Resources — a top Menard priority. The agency had repeatedly clashed with Menard and his company under previous governors over citations for violating state environmental laws and had levied a $1.7 million fine against Menard personally, as well as his company, for illegally dumping hazardous wastes.

Yet somehow this tool managed to get elected 3x in WI

Well, that's exactly the reason he got elected 3 times, the willingness to bend over and take it from corporate donors. Hopefully we get a juicy corruption story every week on him, there must be a few floating around. Every day I get less afraid of Walker, he's going to destroy himself.

One would hope but it seems GOP voters don't give a fuck about corruption. Only derp middle class shouldn't have workplace rights. Which Walker is awesome at attacking.

I could definitely see some, especially in the right-wing media, buying into a "anything it takes to beat the damn unions" narrative, and that spin overtaking individual instances of corruption. I am optimistic though, mostly for the left's chances at winning, not that a decent candidate will arise from the right.

My wife's family backs GOP no matter what through everything. They're middle class. They think the all out attacks on unions are a wonderful thing. Same with education. It's astounding really.

Same here, my long-time girlfriend's family are all Conservatives, they would never vote Liberal even though they've started complaining about Harper a little now. I have old friends from America who are basically tape recordings of Rush and Hannity, and I usually just go along with it because I can't begin to imagine the effort it would take to make a dent.

Ted Cruz going on Obamacare
Ted Cruz is going on Obamacare.

The newly announced Republican presidential candidate told CNN's Dana Bash on Tuesday that he will sign up for health care coverage through the Affordable Care Act -- a law he has been on a crusade to kill.

"We'll be getting new health insurance and we'll presumably do it through my job with the Senate, and so we'll be on the federal exchange with millions of others on the federal exchange," Cruz said.

Ted Cruz is Going on Obamacare as Wife Takes Goldman Sachs Leave
The Goldman Sachs health insurance plan has lost a high profile customer. Texas Senator Ted Cruz is going on Obamacare. With his wife Heidi taking leave to help her husband campaign for president, the Cruzes are leaving the $20,000 per year coverage she enjoyed at Goldman.

"We will presumably go on the exchange and sign up for health care and we're in the process of transitioning over to do that," Cruz told the Des Moines Register's Jennifer Jacobs. "It is written in the law that members will be on the exchanges without subsidies just like millions of Americans... I think the same rules should apply to all of us."

GOP Presidential contender Dr. Ben Carson says: Obama a psychopath and America "very much like Nazi Germany"

Someone should have told him that it is too early in the 2016 Presidential race for a candidate to go full Florida.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/presidential-contender-ben-carson-thinks-182111665.html

The lengthy piece begins with Carson, a retired neurosurgeon and conservative favorite, reacting to President Barack Obama's State of the Union speech. One of Carson's advisers said Obama looked good and Carson responded by calling the president a "psychopath."

"Like most psychopaths," Carson said. "That's why they're successful. That's the way they look. They all look great."

"I mean, [our society is] very much like Nazi Germany," he said in one interview, according to Talking Points Memo. "And I know you're not supposed to say 'Nazi Germany,' but I don't care about political correctness. You know, you had a government using its tools to intimidate the population. We now live in a society where people are afraid to say what they actually believe."

Well one wonders what the other GOP contenders can say that will top Carson. Still plenty of time; I have faith the others will find something more outrageous to say.

He is famous because he talked shit on Obama. That's all his campaign is going to be about as well as his idea of changing healthcare.

Other than Carson/Cruz and Huckabee/Santorum, I think this cycle is going to be less crazy than what 2012 was. The four I mentioned might not all get a spot for the debates.

I don't think Graham ends up running. But I also think he's using the idea he might in order to keep his name in the news - especially in S.Carolina - so he can play a kingmaker role there of sorts and will look to trade his endorsement for a cabinet gig. So I guess he could run Iowa, NH and do terribly and then drop out before S.Carolina primary and endorse one of the front runners to try and break them away from the pack.

Wasn't Rubio taken under the FP wing of McCain/Graham? Rubio winning SC a week or so before Florida would be a big bounce for Marco and Bush losing Florida would effectively end his candidacy.
