Elections GOP Road to 2016 Primary Thread

Republicans have a deep bench alright. Deep in delirium. Walker is the weediest of them all. What possessed him to think he could win a national election?

Winning a presidential blue state three times in two terms might have helped. He has big donors behind him as well and the rust belt is crucial for the republicans to win in 2016 if they want the white house.

With that said, Florida and Ohio are even more crucial before the other rust belt states.

^I think Dems are playing defense after two cycles of Obama playing a bit of offense. Obama had DNC Conventions in Colorado and NC, now Dems are taking their convention to Philly while GOP are heading to Cleveland, Ohio. Dems are trying to protect Pennsylvania from flipping while GOP is trying to win back Ohio.

Jeb flips Florida and with the RNC in Ohio the GOP hope organization and momentum from it will be able to flip it (could also see Kasich or Portman the running mate to Jeb) then going off the 2012 Presidential map the most important state would be Virginia with the winner of it becoming President. For this reason I think Hillary will have Sen. Mark Warner as her running mate. Warner is a successful businessman (self made multimillionaire), a former Governor and now sitting senator with bi-partisan credentials and hugely popular in Va.

Yeah, low-turnout elections where he jumped through hoops to supress the vote. His donors can't possibly believe this a compelling narrative for the rest of the country. He's the worst kind of technocrat.

Warner doesn't seem to have any strong convinctions. He barely eeked out a win over the underfunded Ed Gillespie.

I don't see Jeb getting out of the primaries. He has too much baggage.

But generally speaking, I agree, the Democrats might be playing defense this cycle. The Southwest is the region to win.

All three elections were low turn out? That doesn't make much sense. Are you suggested the dem voters had low turnout? Or the special election did? It's kinda weird to try to discredit all three elections.

Do we really have to go through the charades?

Jeb Bush Vs. Hilary Clinton in 2016.

The Council on Foreign Relations have already selected Jeb Bush to take the presidency in 2016.

McCain and Romney both moved through PA once they knew they lost OH as a last ditch effort. I think PA is staying blue. Wolf was one of the few Dem pickups in 2014 and it wasn't even close.

With Obama's elections, it's kinda hard not to play defense at this point with all the toss up states they picked up. I think Virginia will become more and more blue as time goes on. The GOP needs to win back Ohio, Florida, and then have a handful of smaller pickups like Colorda, New Mexico, Nevada, Iowa. They need a few of these to get 270 however. I think that's why they want to believe more is in play then those states mentioned.

If Walker could get Wisconsin on the map, he flips Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Colorado to win the presidency. That's a much more feasible map imo compared to winning without Wisconsin. However, Ohio and Florida are toss ups at this stage and the GOP needs them to even have a chance.

Were you the guy calling Hilary v. Romney in 2008?

One was a wave election and the others were low-turnout. The recent midterm results were decided by maybe 13-20% of the votng population. Democrats are notoriously slow to vote in the midterms. What's really weird is how desperate Walker was to purge voters. Here's a case where a profound distrust in American institutions is fostered by the fact that people would allow a guy like him to hold office. Remember the infamous prank call where he thought he was talking to one of the Koch brothers lol? Pretty disturbing.

My point is you can't discredit three elections in a blue state. I feel like I'm in the heavies hearing someone make excuses for the wins a fighter they dislike had. Wouldn't a low turnout also signify that his stance on unions didn't bother Wisconsin voters?

Why was it disturbing? Do you think politicans don't have calls with their largest donors? This is only a GOP practice? Also, the call doesn't have anything disturbing in it. The prank caller keeps cursing and Walker maintains a really polite demeanor for it being a private call. If anything, I think it should he believes in his cause.

Jeb Bush, Acknowledging Family Mistakes, Lays Out His Foreign Policy Vision

It took until the question-and-answer session of Jeb Bush's major foreign policy address Wednesday for him to obliquely criticise decisions made by his brother.
"There were mistakes made in Iraq, for sure," he said, though he lauded his brother, former President George W. Bush, for his "heroic" decision to move more troops into that country.
In the speech at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the former Florida governor and unofficial presidential contender said he wanted to distinguish himself from his brother and father, former President George H.W. Bush.

Jeb Bush Defends NSA Mass Surveillance as 'Hugely Important'
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush on Wednesday offered a vocal defense of the National Security Agency's mass collection of U.S. phone call data, saying the program is "hugely important" to keeping Americans safe from terrorists.
During a foreign policy speech in Chicago, the likely Republican candidate for president said the mass surveillance is an essential ingredient in the fight against those seeking to do harm to the United States.

CHRIS CHRISTIE'S IOWA BROMANCE
Terry Branstad was in a tight spot. It was Labor Day weekend of 2010 and the Iowa governor's campaign manager had just gotten off the phone with the Republican Governors Association with bad news. The $1 million check that the RGA promised for the fall campaign? Gone. Redirected to other states with closer contests.

"That left a huge gaping hole," says Jeff Boeyink, Branstad's campaign manager.

It was then that Branstad and Boeyink came up with a moonshot idea to backfill their bleeding ad budget: Chris Christie.

The popular New Jersey Republican was only nine months into his first term, but they made the ask anyway: Would the bombastic governor take his show to Des Moines to help Branstad out? "Probably the last thing he wants to do is come to Iowa and start speculation back at home, or anywhere else, that he's already got his eyes on the White House," Boeyink recalls. "God bless them, he agreed to do it."

I'm not saying its a huge deal but with Bush locking down a lot Florida early, the "this guy doesn't even show up to work" message won't help.

A VP spot sounds ideal. If Biden can do it, anyone can.

One problem the GOP has is this assumption Rubio will win over the "Hispanic" vote. Because he has a spanish last name they win that voter group. He is a Cuban American. He isn't gonna build that bridge to Mexican American's with current Republican rhetoric.

It helps them win Florida but people often forget there is a difference between Cuban-Americans and Mexican-Americans. Cuban-Americans tend to be more conserative while Mexican-Americans lean left. Rubio's success likely won't win the majority of Hispanics but it still is an outreach to the group. I think Rubio's policy with immigration gives him a far better chance of winning that vote compared to his ethnicity/heritage.
