In general, I think that is the only one of the American Godzilla movies I thought was any good. The rest of them are basically generic summer blockbusters reskinned with Godzilla in them. I enjoyed the 2014 movie overall. Yeah, I think the final fight was good.

Shin was weird. Then terrifying. Then kind of... Campy? Tonally all over the place, but after it draws you in with the kind of awkward, dumpy Godzilla that just walks along it really shocks you with the breath weapon scene. I think the movie went downhill from there, but it still had a good finish.

Do you have any other Foreign Godzilla recommendations that are not super old? Yea the most recent American Godzilla films are very bad. I agree 2014 is the best of them. Still a very low bar.

I mean, depends on what you mean by super old. The reality is that prior to Shin, the last proper Japanese Godzilla movie was Godzilla: Final Wars, which was 2004 with Shin being 2016. That's a big special effects leap, so anything before Shin is basically in the rubber suit era.

Godzilla 1985 is my personal favourite. It's a solo monster horror style one. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I think it's one of the best (most expressive) suits and captures the whole force-of-nature feel that Godzilla tends towards when more serious.

I think the best fights from any (older) Godzilla movie are from Godzilla against MechaGodzilla (2002). Godzilla: Final Wars (2004) is a wild ride - it's more like an anime with notable inspiration from The Matrix. Very over the top - buy kinda fun. Doesn't really fit with previous Godzilla movies.

I'd say any of the post-1999's ones have generally higher grade special effects and less campy rubber suits, so they aren't as much a shock to modern audiences. If you like the above listed ones, I'd bet you like all of those.

It's time for a Godzilla vs Godzilla movie.

so how much of a badass is he? could he take out Hawkeye of Marvel world? Or even a Groot? that would be a good crossover

Used to be a big fan but fell out of touch a few years ago. So every movie now is essentially a reboot with a twist?

Not every movie, but there have been a slew of continuities since the 90's. I like that they are allowing for experimentation with the character and themes.

how did he do?

They couldn't beat him. It ended up being one of those endings where neither side loses.

Will never get the godzilla hype but I'm happy people feel genuine enthusiasm for it

Watch Shin Godzilla. I've never been a fan of Godzilla, but Shin Godzilla wasn't a monster movie, it was a disaster movie with a LOT to say about incidents like Fukishima meltdown. It was smart, it was riveting and it was a movie that was way better than I ever thought Godzilla could be.

I'll give it a go

If this is connected (prequel?) to the current godzilla story line than I'm in.
This is gonna be the first in a Tohoverse, as far as I'm aware. They're rebooting all of their properties into a Marvel style universe. Should be boss AF
