Glover Shoulda Retired After Beating Jan

Get in, don't get paid, get out? No thanks to the cheese?

Bold strategy, @deadshot138 Let's see how it plays out.
As I’ve stated already, I didn’t take into account he was fighting for nothing. And I’m sure he can command a decent check as champ and even one or two fights removed if he loses.

I mean specifically against Jiri. Why would he feel confident specifically fighting Jiri? Is there some weakness in Jiri's game that Glover think he can exploit? Of course he should be confident. That's not even a question.

he's wild and reckless. Glover is strong as fuck and he's probably banking that his top game would be too much for Jiri if it goes to the ground. like i said in my other post, Jiri is a winnable fight for Glover even as old as he is.

PPV points, though. Say he's a sir on a good day and gets nothing but PPV points - 3% of 300k buys $80 each. No one can do that kind of math, but that alone is a lot. A lot on top of what he's already getting.

That said, I don't wanna drag this into details. I get your main point. Dude's been around for so long, finally reaches the dream. Leaving on a down note ruins the story. But life's not a movie, he's gotta think of his future. Cause, yeah, he's old. Exactly. And what else can he possibly be good at? Just go forth.

Why ? I don't see why any champion would simply forfeit their reign as a champion when they can cement a legacy. Besides, I doubt he's throwing away the extra money when it took him 15+ years of hard sweat, blood and tears to get to this point just to hand it to someone else.

He should retire when he finally gonna start earning PPV points? You guys realize these guys fight for money and not green numbers on their sherdog page right?

Glover being the Champion is sort of like Biden being the President.
A waste of time for everyone involved.

I'm not a huge fan of the going out on top thing. The decline and eventual retirement gives closure to their story.

Why? To go down as the weakest champ ever that never defended? No, he needs to fight to cement himself as a champion. Plus, he will prob make more his next fight win or lose than he ever has.

I do think that grappling is Glover’s easiest path to victory. He clearly holds the advantage there by a long way. I also think that Jiri’s fearlessness makes him dangerous. I think this fight could go either way.

Dude became champ at 42.

Father time aint saying nuffin

This was a dream come true for Glover. He worked for years to win this belt. You don't just walk away after that.

He’s the champ of an unusually weak LHW, maybe he should retire on top or defend the belt once or twice to up his legacy and bankroll a bit. He has been in some wars so it’s soon time that he retires though, but I think he has a legit chance at beating anyone at LHW now that all of the elite are bo longer fighting at LHW.

Love Glover man, but there's no doubt he gets starched against Jiri. I predict a 1st rd KO.

That being said, glad Glover didn't retire after winning the strap. If he did, then we would've gotten Jan vs Jiri & at this point especially at 205 we need fresh matchups. Not a guy fighting for a title when he was just in a championship fight & lost & it wasn't controversial. Plus who knows? In the fight world anything can happen & upsets happen often.

But UFC ppv points?

Come on man. With the talk of UFC fighter pay in here. I’m supposed to take a post where a guy passes up his biggest payday seriously?? As a guy with several losses already, how does this make sense? He has a belt that nobody can EVER take off his wall. Take the fucking money.

You sure love that GIF

Think about it. It’s a fairytale ending. Don’t stick around and get whooped on by the young bucks once Father Time has had his way with you. At 42 or whoever old he is, looking at maybe 2 fights year if he’s lucky and doesn’t get injured, what’s the end game? How many title defenses do you think he’d manage before retiring?

You paying him in retirement. That's awesome bro
