Glover Shoulda Retired After Beating Jan

They all need the money, and it’s very difficult to turn down the biggest paydays of your career after you spent 20+ years getting to this very point.

Sadly he’ll likely go out like nearly everyone else before him, but his pockets will be a bit more healthy on the flip side.

I think he beats Jiri, but if he loses it doesn't erase the fact that he won the belt at his age.
It's still cemented in his legacy and will be one of best comeback stories in MMA.

Like others said above, his next fight will bring in a lot of money and UFC 274 is looking pretty stacked so far to bring in some good PPV points.

Maybe, but I do like that he'll pass the torch. It won't take anything away from his career for me.

To be fair he didn't beat Jan. Jan beat Jan. He didn't look himself. It was one of the "deer in the headlights" performances. Just like Costa against Adesanya or Hooker against Chandler.
But yes, Glover looked awesome and has chance against Jiri.

Think about it. It’s a fairytale ending. Don’t stick around and get whooped on by the young bucks once Father Time has had his way with you. At 42 or whoever old he is, looking at maybe 2 fights year if he’s lucky and doesn’t get injured, what’s the end game? How many title defenses do you think he’d manage before retiring?

I'd agree, but LHW is pretty thin so he might as well get a defence and some extra cash.

Jiri is dangerous but he's beatable.

If he can get at least one defence he can rest for a bit afterwards, shoot a couple of commercials, fake an injury, shoot some more commercials, then wait for the interim belt, then schedule a unification bout, shoot some more commercials, and then fake another injury and retire.

That's a lot of money to miss out on.

But UFC ppv points?

Come on man. With the talk of UFC fighter pay in here. I’m supposed to take a post where a guy passes up his biggest payday seriously?? As a guy with several losses already, how does this make sense? He has a belt that nobody can EVER take off his wall. Take the fucking money.

He's at the tail-end of his career, and luckily enough, JUST became champion . . . better retire ASAP before he makes any money, right?

Wait.. he is still fighting? Fun fact; he has almost double the fights in the ufc than in pride

MMA record
PRIDE - 12 -1
UFC 11-10

Maybe he wants to make some money.
I swear it feels like half the time I'm talking to teenagers on Sherdog.

They don't have an understanding of what it means to earn a living.

After decades of hardship, including coming from a village with no electricity, not seeing his wife for years and a bunch of other sacrifices... Glover finally gets the belt and PPV bonus opportunities, and TS wants him to retire.

No one mentions Glovers increased muscle tone for the Jan fight. He was in mad shape. Watch him submit Jiri lmao

He probably feels pretty confident against Jiri, and there's not exactly a murderers row of challengers coming up. I think he could pull off a few defences then retire, but with lots more monies.
Why would he feel confident against Jiri? He has 27 finishes in his 28 wins. I'm not sure anyone should feel confident against him.

Nailed it imho, he can take the risk one more time for a decent payday, as long as he has the belt he will get paid accordingly, nothing wrong with cashing out a the end of his career, he has taken loses for less.

i think Jiri is a winnable fight for him. i wouldn't retire simply because the next batch of LHWs all have areas that Glover could exploit even at his advanced age. he just absolutely manhandled the guy who cruised to an easy decision on one of UFC's golden boys the supposed best UFC striker ever. he can lose for sure, but all of these up and coming guys have major holes he can expose with his style.

because everyone's gotta lose sometime? so why not against Glover? a fighter not being confident is very rare and usually means they're already beaten. they don't think the same way normal people do.

Yeah, I thought the exact same thing.

Exactly, if he can survive them on the first most of them wouldnt survive the grind for the rest of the fight, just like it happened to Anthony Smith against him, simply for the payday, one more fight win or lose its not a bad idea at all.

Who's record is that?

ts' greatest accomplishment is placing 7th in a World of Warcraft tournament.

Nah. Glover should retire, win or lose, after Jiri. Either he beats the youngin or gets wrecked. With a win... no more mountains to climb at LHW, unless he really wants to try and coax Jones into an unlikely rematch. No shame in a loss to Jiri, and he's probably too old to climb the ranks again.

He has new goals now. He is going to defend his belt, and then go and take the HW belt. Ngannou is about to bounce and has a long recovery period anyways, so at least an interim belt will be there for the taking. Glover going to get that too son!

He old and washed shouldn’t be anywhere near the title, the lhw division is weak and in shambles
