Garry won the fight but lost the war

Pretty similar fight to Diaz vs Edwards. A hated favorite looking good against a fan favorite before barely surviving the fifth round almost comeback.

Edwards was completely recovered in ~10 seconds and would have resume casually beating the shit out of Nate. I don't think its a particularly similar comparison.

In any event, we've now seen Garry dance away and point fight every single dangerous fighter he's been booked with. Its a well understood thing at this point.

Prates didn't show up with a plan for that, but he'll learn from this fight. He was clearly trying to measure himself for 5 rounds and didn't understand how that framework and pace works out in the big league. Guys with touch of death power don't typically make good on 'just win the round' but its something he has to learn.

Garry will stink up the room a few more times before he gets caught IMO. Has nothing for Belal though.

Prates lost the fight -- and lost the war.

He didn't elevate -- his hype train got derailed and the Nerds took a well deserved "L".

I can see the comparison to Leon but I think getting wobbled by a 36 year old Nate Diaz is definitely a worse look than Pratos cracking Garry there. Leon vs Nate was always supposed to be a one sided beat down, whereas a lot of fans picked Prates to beat Ian.

Yesh no doubt, especially as Prates is known for his power and Diaz.....isn't.

Prates looked to be a slow starter out there

Those damn high-fives I think fucked with Prates too. He finish every round clapping hands with him sending him off to the corner smiling, while bleeding

The part I did appreciate was when Prates denied Garry the “kneel with me and lets hold each others shoulders and cry” moment at the end LoL

If things were different, he would have lost. Blah, blah, blah stfu.
If Prates would’ve been able to get his timing sooner, he may have been able to defeat Garry had the latter not adjusted his strategy.

Of course , had there been a sixth round, the fight would’ve likely ended in a draw.

In rounds 7 and 8, though Garry could have easily mounted a comeback leading into the new final (in this weird fanfic) round 9 when it’d be anybody’s fight.

It really just comes down to how fantastical of a scenario one needs to imagine for their fighter to have ended up winning instead of coming up short.

What a F’n circle jerk.

Prates ended round one on his back and got cut open by ground and pound so.... you do realize he woulda stayed there after the five minute mark right?
The legendary gnp of Garry Machado

so you're going to reward the nameless dude who stabs both of them to death on the street? it still makes absolutely no sense.

Or people that fight without gaming rules that go against the spirit of the sport? Do you seriously have trouble comprehending that?

Ian won fair and square. He almost got put away in the last minute but Prates ran out of time. Prates ran out of time because he didn't get on it sooner. It's his own fault. I'm not taking anything away from either guy. Both has some super moments.

It's a strange feeling that leaves this fight. Ian won on the scorecards but in the street or with just another round he would surely have been killed.

Does this in any way diminish the value of his victory?
He lost under Pride FC scoring criteria sp there's that
