Sometimes shit happens in fights, Serra knocked out GSP. Gane is interesting for a few reasons
  • He's never been KO'd
  • He's probably the most technical, fluid striker that Tom has faced. Volkov would be the second most technical striker on Tom's resume, but that fight ended in R1 with a submission
  • Tom has never gone more than 2 rounds so it's possible Gane could test his cardio and ability to win a long, tough fight
With that said, it's quite possible Tom can take down Gane just like Ngannou (who's a mediocre grappler but very big/strong like Tom). He could either finish him on the ground or turn D1 like Francis did.
 
one of the variables people aren't talking about much is aspinall's gas tank, as in is it questionable. he has yet to fight past the 2nd round in his ufc career (and then only once), will be curious how he looks in championship rounds. if it suddenly shows up as a weakness gane could conceivably dance around and win a close decision. in fact, if i'm gane in this fight, that might be my strategy - try to survive the early rounds, tire him out and drag him into deep waters. don't know how else he wins really.
 
Tom is British they aren't elite wrestlers. Gane probably stuffs him and wins a comfortable decision. Not shocking at all.

Ummm, are you confused about who we're talking about? Sergei Pavlovich annihilated Tai Tuivasa. Cyril Gane went to war with him.



Perhaps you should try watching the fight because this is why "people" are saying this. Dudes spose to be next gen high level defensive striker with MW speed and he's getting dropped and rocked by a 40% bodyfat rugby brawler. Luckily for him Tai has zero ground game or really any skills at all other than a haymaker.

Tom has a 100% TD success rate and a 100% TD defense rate.

In his last 5 fights, Gane has been taken down in 9 out of 12 attempts, and only one of those people was even a "grappler". And the only thing thats worse than Gane's takedown defense, is his actual takedown offense. This is a guy who shot for FOURTEEN takedowns again Rozenstruik.... and took him down twice. Overall his TD rate is 25%.

Gane is not a brawler, his fighting style has holes in it but can be very effective if you let the fight drag. Think of gane as a temu Dricus.

I like that you propose Tom's cardio and ability to go 5 is unknown rather than a guaranteed weakness - as the guys who are only infatuated with Jones but don't even like MMA do.

Could do this with any sport. It makes no sense.

Based on what we have seen and what we know of their training history, Tom is an effective grappler and Gane is not. Tom is likely a better grappler than most (note: most) the dudes Gane has faced and several have taken him down. Including mediocre one knee grappler Ngannou.

I'm rooting for Gane just to go on sherdog afterwards to see how they spin it. I don't think Aspinall is invincible and perfect in every facet and Gane isn't the white belt with no wrestling everyone thinks he is.

Don't think Aspinall is just going to KO him 1st exchange or sub him right away. Going to be a tough fight for both.

Sherdog will spin it badly.
It will just add to legacy of retired Jon Jones and reduce the credibility of the whole HW division.

Similar to what happened when DC became double champ and defeated Stipe, but worse, because Jones is retired.
 
I don't think Aspinall is that good and he will be rusty . Gsne has a definite shot but Aspunall likely just lays on him 5 rds like 1 legged Frank did.

He absolutely is the white belt with no wrestling that everyone thinks he is.

In his last 5 fights, he's been taken down 9 out of 12 times. Only one of those fights was even against a grappler. He can't even stop non-grapplers from taking him down at will. His takedown offense is just as bad. He has a 25% takedown success rate and he shot for FOURTEEN takedowns against ROZENSTRUIK and still only took him down twice.
 
Aspinall isn't stupid. This fight will hit the mat two minutes into the first round if he doesn't catch Gane with something earlier. I don't see Gane finishing Aspinall within this time frame, and I'm pretty confident Aspinall will take this fight to the ground rather quickly if it gets risky on the feet. Aspinall wins within 2 rounds, likely by submission.
