Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

Grumble grumble......

Doesn't help NVIDIA is being cocks either.

i'm already determined to wait til next gen. the 3d stacking (not that cpus were ever my problem) and leaks/rumours re: next gen GPUs help a bit.

of course, for all i know, bitcoin will be $300k when the next GPUs come out and shit's even worse.

Given the reports that NVIDIA is dropping support for like the early 1000 series and older stuff... my card is going to be next if they stop support as it's a barebones GTX 1070.

My computer took a dump during a repair after BSOD the other night so I am having a friend reload Windows on it since I think it bricked itself but I'm beginning to worry my Mobo is nearing the end of it's natrual life span given it's a mini sitting inside a mid tower case and is like 6 years old.

I may replace the board first and pray there's an influx of GPUs in the fall (I doubt it will happen).

i wouldn't replace it unless you find a hell of a deal or you absolutely have to. the sockets seem to be at/near end of life.

There's a part of me worried my friend is going to come back and go "dude, your mobo and CPU are nearing the end of their life expectancy... you probably should upgrade"

Granted, I've been looking at Mobo's and CPUs and when you can find them they don't seem THAT pricey....

5800X is $399 on Amazon today.

But I'd advise you to keep your eyes peeled sharp on June 21-22. That's Amazon Prime day this year.

Will do. I'm still waiting to hear back but there's admittedly a part of me that wants to grab the mobo and chip and just have it in my possession so I can upgrade whenever I want.

Stalker 2 is going to require an SSD, 150gb, and it won't run on a HDD. I don't recall another game requiring an SSD. I wonder if we'll start seeing this trend.

i'm surprised it didn't happen sooner, honestly.

I dunno cause my last PC build still used HDD (where i store my games) so i think the vast majority of casual PC gamers are still with older HDD PC IMO.

But another few years or so and it'll SSD majority...

that's not even what i mean. and i'm running a hdd and ssd (and put some games on the hdd when it doesn't matter)

it's been a long time since devs were removing lower graphics settings from menus because they didn't want viewers turned off by streamers' low res shit. this seems like an extension of that... but one that's actually beneficial to the experience, anyway (in contrast to fps vs gfx).

Pc users use HDD for storage and or rarely played games because of their cheap volume price. Sata SSD's became the standard as primary back in 2014 on Pc.

What delayed this user standardization is the continued lifespan of last generation consoles. For during the transition of HDD to Sata SSD on Pc the PS4/Xbox launched with HDD's.

2017 is when the transition from Sata SSD to M.2 SSD began.

A game developer requiring SSD usage is a bad sign. For it shows lack of compression.

I myself only have SSDs now lol.

Got some good deals on them. Got a 1TB WD Green SSD to replace my old HDD earlier this year.

Their other required specs are pretty high end.

Amazon Prime day fucking blows. What a miscarriage of advertising. Total joke. Best sale I've seen so far, hands down, was the $73 sale at Best Buy for a 1TB Crucial P2 NVMe SSD (already sold out, obviously).

Otherwise, best sale I've seen on Amazon is easily this:
($53) Rosewill CULLINAN MX ATX Mid Tower Case
small.png

Debuted at an MSRP of $149 (too high). Case is $115 on Newegg, currently. The lowest sale it has ever seen on Newegg is $60, and the lowest it has been in the past year is $85. It had never been below $90 on Amazon until just this May when it hit $80 on May-11-2021, and has notched increasingly better sales culminating in today's price.

PCPP page:
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/3p3H99/rosewill-cullinan-mx-atx-mid-tower-case-cullinan-mx

Averages 4.5* out of 755 customer reviews on Amazon, and 4.01* out of 488 customer reviews on Newegg page (shared score for all Cullinan models).
Tech Reviews:
Layout is highly similar to original Cullinan which scored phenomenal thermals with GN:
https://www.gamersnexus.net/hwrevie...inan-case-review-vs-anidees-ai-crystal/page-2

This is as low a price for a case that comes with 4x120mm fans at stock you will ever see (and these are RGB, no less).
