Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

Okay guys I want some advice.

As I've stated before, I am in the business for a huge upgrade. I'm actually looking to do custom water cooling- I've been reading and researching for quite a while now. Going to get the Corsair Hydro X set, as well as a GPU block with an extra 360 Rad. So this is serious stuff.

In keeping with that theme I want serious hardware. I've got two questions, and I'm hoping that all of you but probably only @Madmick will have the desire to answer my blathering.

1) It's my understanding that the Asus ROG Strix OC RTX 3090 is THE most powerful card. Is this correct?
2) I'm hearing that next year AMD's Zen 4 is going to be monstrously better, even accounting for standard hardware power creep. Same for their Radeon. I'm looking to play games at highest settings around 1440p. I know that you can always make a case for waiting in the PC realm. But should I wait? If a game is on XBSX or PS5 I want it to run better on my rig.

As I said before money is not an issue but I do want to make only ONE investment every so often (My last one was 2015).

tl;dr - if you can wait, wait.

Me and my boy tried getting the 3080 ti last week at best buy and just came short of the 64 limit. Had they had just 8 more, we would have been guaranteed one. We tried for the 3070 ti, and shit got so crazy they had to disband the line and do a random raffle which meant people who camped for days could get beat out by people who came at the very last minute when the qr code was sent for the raffle. And that's exactly what happened. Bullshit.

Redragon K552 Tenkeyless Outemu Blue mechanical switches for $23 on Amazon. It doesn't have individual key RGB, it has lighting zones. For that price I ordered one to use as a backup.

RX 6900 XT's are back in stock. I mean you can go to Newegg right now and grab them- if there's one that's not in stock generally waiting a few days brings it back.

I'm not kidding, I almost bought a Sapphire Toxic at retail price, I'm trying to hold out for either a 3080 Ti or better yet, RDNA 3

This is the model I have. Great keyboard.

So you're that asshole.

"Click-click-click-click-clickety-clickety-click!"

We can hear it over the mic.

I used to work outside my boss's office and he had one at work and it would drive me nuts. I never mind using mine at home but hearing someone else use a mechanical keyboard is irritating. He also always slammed the enter key for some reason.

There's a Grizzy Rainbow Six Siege vid where you can no shit hear one of his friend's fucking mouse. It's that like 2008 era Logitech mouse cause it has that cheap plastic "clack" when you pick it up and put it down. Then you can hear another guy's keyboard and he loses it.

That's hilarious. My cousin almost lost it on me once in R6. I minimized the game when it was like 4-1 and he was the last one left. We got raped so I assumed we would lose it (we were defenders). I think I was on sherdog or something replying to a post and he just screams out "Mute your fucking Mic!!!!". I laughed so hard and muted my mic. We actually ended up winning the round.

blue outemu ftw.

clackity-clack!

edit: also, it's pretty easy to replace the gaming keys with red/anything else, since blue is the loudest... and even cheapo redragon ones came with 4 pairs of spare/sample switches

The group I play with on Xbox we have like 2 guys that can't put their fucking phones down to the point they often don't pick an operator until there's like 1 second left to pick... and one guy will alwasy do the "I was debating" and it's like:
"Bruh, you fucking pick ONE dude on defense... Castle. And TWO guys on attack... Ace or Glaz (only if Ace is banned)... THE FUCK YOU HAVE TO THINK ABOUT BITCH?"

Both of them will routinely mute their mic to talk to their girlfriend and forget to unmute and go like entire rounds talking into a mic and raging that no one is responding just to come back and go "um... I was fucking muted giving out callouts, fuck"

Once I get my tower back I need to update my keyboard at least. Need to figure out which MX keys I like first though lol. Imma stick with my shitty Razer mouse for now as it's not broken yet lol.

I don't always do that but yea I'm guilty of it. Sometimes I have something that I'm trying to do at the same time and I just forget to pick. The update where they pick your last picked character or something like that was a life saver for me.

That has screwed me in ranked games before.

I'll play unranked to get warmed up (not that it helps me) and will run like goofy operators I don't normally play like Vigil and shit then jump in ranked where I want to run Smoke for basement of like Oregon and I get Vigil.....

A Friend of mine says it's not cryptocurrency miners it's people who been collecting 600 extra a week during covid. He said they started this buying spree and have been offloading them at a huge profit.

He said now there are tons of people who do this full time. They have so many cards they are flipping on Ebay an even Amazon they are putting away tons as long as they can keep it going.

Sounds crazy but the rush to buy them seems to coincide with COVID home computer purchases.

Man hearing someone type on blue switches makes me want to touch the person with teh jab, seriously.

This is correct. Crypto Miners have been around for a long time.
Tons of people are staying home collecting checks which has created a massive surge in demand. The chip shortage is real. Scalpers take advantage of any kind of shortage and now the use of bots is prevalent.

Having said that, I use StockX to gauge the market and the average prices of GPU's are slowly coming down. Also as I mentioned before you can now get RX 6900 XT's at retail price, which is a huge deal, if only because it's an indication of a crawl back to normalcy.

<{cruzshake}>

it's not 100% because of miners, but it's damn sure because of miners. crypto bullshit went up like 7458745378% and there are more miners than ever and bigger mining operations than ever.

Dumb question as I assume the answer is "no" but... is there a chance to even find the 2000 series NVIDIA cards (or the AMD equivalents) near MSRP?
