Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

So you have a GTX 1070 instead of an RX 580? That’s great.
And they really did use a stock Intel cooler on an unlocked i7! Fuck IBP.
The PC community didn't tolerate this, it harmed these low-margin prebuilders for years, and they learned from it. They don't do that anymore. You don't see anything less than 120mm liquid coolers on their prebuilds, these days.
On the list of ways that I feel dumb, I forgot I bought my PC through NewEgg years ago. I fucking found it on my orders today when I went to order a monitor.

Here it is in all it's glorious outdated me being a dumbass specs:
https://www.newegg.com/ibuypower-ne900h/p/N82E16883227688?Item=N82E16883227688

Intel Cor i7 6th Gen 6700k
8 gb DDR4
1 TB mechanical HD
120 GB SSD (that is being replaced with a 500 gb SSD right now)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB GDDR5

What if I wanted like 1080p and minimum 60 FPS should I fiddle with next after RAM sticks and replacing the stock air fan.
You know, DDR4-2400 RAM obviously isn't hard to find on the market now at the best prices. For this reason, you should take out that RAM stick, and write down the serial code (or other identifying information) you find on it. This way, you could buy a matching 1x8GB stick to match with it to expand to 16GB in dual channel for even less money (or even a 1x16GB stick if you want to take yourself out to 24GB).

Oh I have realized when i was browsing prices and talking to friends that have been gaming on PC longer than me.

One guy:
"DUDE, all you need is RAM and an Air Cooler and you're good to go... I hate you so much"
"Why?"
"It's like $100 or less to do that right now and you could STILL get a CoolerMaster Hyper 212 if you wanted... when I did it 3 years ago it was like $150. You being a lazy fuck paid off."

I need something explained though:
https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?d=NVIDIA+GeForce+GTX+1070+8+GB+GDDR5&N=50001312

I looked up the card for shits'n'giggles and went under the MSI branding because I know that's what I have... why is there like 40 different versions of the same card?

TLDW: AMD & Nvidia usually release a base line reference card. Board partners like MSI take that refence card design and improve on it. Better components, more features, different coolers, etc. This leads to higher clock speeds, lower noise, better cooling, different aesthetics, etc.

The thing is you're not supposed to use a stock cooler at all on a K processor. Intel doesn't include them for a reason.

It’s amazing you can’t buy any graphics cards worth a damn at MSRP. . Anywhere. Last years cards. This years.. doesn’t matter none are available direct to consumer prices.

Was just ready a reddit thread on this I feel like I got lucky with my rx580 at the price I paid a year or so ago...

Just saw the price I paid vs what it's at now on amazon.

$185 vs $260. It doubled in price in close to two years.

I pointed this out in a past post people are gluten's for punishment. I was lucky though recently because it was a Sunday night at 11 pm the action ended I got an RTX 2070 for 340 dollars. Most of the time these cards end up at around 480 bucks or more and the RTX 2070 Super go for well over 500 bucks. After I bought my RTX 2070 the same guy put up an RTX 2070 Super and sold it for 420 bucks oh well I am still very happy. For some reason I did a search and did not see the Super till after my purchase of the 2070.

Oh I wanted to add there still maybe hope but you have to watch closely "pain in the butt" I hear some RTX 30X0 boards will show up a retailers between Dec. 15 till the 18th.

I think the GPU prices right now are even worse than during mining craze in 2018. Even the GTX 1660s (no ray tracing and DLSS) have shot up in price.

5700xt's can be found around the $400 range but I wouldn't buy one.

The reason you can't find last years cards for a decent price is because they're no longer being made.

I can find 3 year old cards on new egg. So not sure I’m buying that.

I remember when I was a kid building and upgrading my PC all the time the used GPU market was the only way I upgraded my GPU. I didn't even bother trying to go new and I could save a good $100 easily. Thinking about it now that though was about 15-20 years ago.

I think those are third party sellers. I looked up the card I have yesterday and saw the 1070 still for sale but none had the "sold by NewEgg" logo on them.

Also, third party sellers need to get real... saw a fucking new AMD Ryzen 7 (not sure which one) for sale on their marketplace for like $5000..... I hate scalpers.

Ah I didn’t think about that. Probably 3rd party on the 1080’s.

I think Amazon is the same way though Amazon seems to have a better handle on scalpers there trying to sell the brand new shit at like 300% what they bought it for.

Nvidia hasn't made 1080ti chips since November of 2018.
If you look on the left hand side of Newegg, you can sort by seller. You have to be careful, Amazon will kind of back you up if you buy something from a 3rd party seller. Newegg won't help you out at all.

I love that guy.

AMD To End Production of Radeon RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT, RX 6800 Reference Models, Will Focus on Custom AIB Variants [Update]

LMAO, what a fucking dog and pony show. First, AMD creates the best-performing reference design in history: triple-fan with a sky-is-the-limit power delivery, the best cooling and cooling-to-noise ratio we've ever seen under load at the high end, and a fan idling mode. There's no need for AIB variants. None.

Then they make none of them. Worst paper launch we've ever seen. Even worse than NVIDIA's RTX 3000 prank on the world.

Then they stop making a card they never made in the first place.

I'm sure they'll sort it out shortly...
