Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

That EVGA wait list is going sloooooooow. I'm on day 2 am position but they have barely moved a couple hours down the list.

Arctic is launching a 420mm version of their Liquid Freezer ll. Price is 120 euro's so that's about $140 USD.

Will these availability issues be fixed in a few months? I want to build a new system and I guess it doesn't matter if I wait till February or later.

Browsed through some hardware forums, is Nvidia just the cool thing to hate right now or do those AMD cards really seem much better?

Gamer's Nexus has quoted at least a couple of their sources as saying that supply is about normal and that demand is what's making these cards so hard to find. With that in mind and considering how much disposable income consumers will spend by Christmas, I'm hoping that makes 3080s easier to get ahold of.

I wonder if the fact that the Super cards that people can even find makes that more or less likely. They're overpriced, especially now, but I don't know if (considering the holiday season) that will give people extra incentive to wait for 30 series cards or lead to people just getting what they can, freeing up 30 series cards for the rest of us.

Yea I dunno.. seems supply is short. The manufacturing yields are probably not where they need to be which is why nvidia is going back to TSMC...

I check the nowinstock website from time to time and people have been sitting at their computers waiting for a website like Newegg or Amazon to update stock status for over a month and they haven't had any luck.. if you still have people with that level of dedication still not being able to secure a card then I'd say there are definitely supply issues.

From what I recall, GN is quoting individual outlets so it could be that there are overall shortages, I guess. I don't see any reason for their sources to mislead them though.

Yea my buddy is in the same position and already got a 3070. He says he'll get the 3080 for me if he gets it but the list is crawling. Wont get it until like December unless things ramp up.

I timestamped the section on supply, but one of the interesting things that Steve mentions much earlier on in the video is that vendors were seeing interest back in March (when interest is usually nil) that typically coincides with October and November. The video starts with Nvidia's official statement, but if you keep watching he mentions that partners have told him stock is similar to previous launches at around the 15:50 mark.

The AMD fangirls are miserable cunts. It's insane how toxic they are. They turn the autism reeeee up to 11. Death threats have been sent to reviewers. Shit, you'll see people tell posters to kill themselves if they post they bought an Intel or Nvidia part.
This sort of behavior isn't just edge cases. I can't stress how crazy they are.
They made a huge controversy over a Nvidia box in the background on a shelf during an AMD video card review. They were saying Nvidia was paying them to have the box in the background, the reviewer was no longer to be trusted anyone because of it even though they're the best in the business, etc.
Or if a reviewer points out that an AMD isn't as good as an Nvidia card, even if the benchmarks prove the the Nvidia card is better, they go full reeee. Any criticism of AMD, even if it's justified, they go full retard.
They've ruined the community.

It's been 4 years since the launch of the 1000 series cards. If you had a 1000 series card, there was no reason to upgrade to a 2000 series or their Super variants. It's been 4 years since those people had a reason to upgrade and in terms of pc hardware, that's an eternity. Heck, AMD in that time with their CPU's went from being irrelevant to the leader. A lot of people with 900 series cards, which are 6 years old now, are wanting to upgrade as well.
These are also the first cards that offer a good 4k experience.

it's too early to know for certain re: amd cards, but they sure appear to be pretty solid.

but this is mostly nvidia blowing their legs off with this (quasi)paper launch and frustrating their customers.

yeah, well... they were wrong/lied to. i don't fault GN, but the data from numerous retailers/etc indicates that the supply is quite light. add in the bots/scalpers, and it's the current mess.

i have no idea what kind of supply amd will have, it could be ok or constrained, but it's almost assuredly not ample.

Yeah, AMD fans are up there for the most miserable cunts in any comment section.
Hopefully AMD actually making good video cards will get them to mellow the fuck out for a little bit. Probably not though.
And I'm in that group, I bought a 1080 ti as soon as the AIB boards were out and just haven't had a reason to upgrade until now.

This isn't your typical sale you'd see flagged in here, but I just noticed there is one of those recycled office comps that always populates Amazon's bestseller lists that just popped up this month that is ~$125 better than one would normally expect for a comp with its specs. If anyone who pops into this thread was hoping to get into PC gaming on the cheap this is one way in:
($139) HP ProDesk 600 G1 (Refurbished, 90-Day Amazon Return Policy)
31AGLtPFFjL._AC_.jpg

  • i5-4570
  • 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1600 RAM [16GB max possible expansion, i.e. 2x8GB]
  • 500GB 5400 RPM HDD
  • DVD-RW
  • 240W PSU (Standard, 90% Platinum, 92% Titanium; no way to know which one you'll get)
  • Windows 10 Pro
  • Keyboard + Mouse
Here is the list of support documents:
HP ProDesk 600 G1 Small Form Factor PC: Support Manuals (most importantly the Service Guide)
HP ProDesk 600 G1 Small Form Factor PC: Document List

This would be the ideal GPU to pair. The service manual image for a PCIex16 replacement, and the list of compatible GPUs HP packaged with some units, shows there is sufficient space for the height & length:
($149) PNY VCG16504SFPPB-O GeForce GTX 1650 4GB XLR8 Gaming Overclocked Edition Graphics Card

All you need is a monitor, but most already have one they can use. Viable monitors in new condition begin as cheap as $80, and dedicated 144Hz gaming options begin around $159.

For $278 total you have a legit gaming PC.

In fact, even without the separate PNY video card, the Intel HD iGPU is compatible with NVIDIA's GeForce Now service, which is free in 1-hr chunks, so if you have a strong internet connection (ideally: <50 Mbps bandwidth with >40ms ping), and you simply build a library for free by grabbing games given away all the time, chiefly by Epic each week, you can start playing modern PC games including titles like Hitman 2 for $139.

Where can you see your position on the list?

docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FQupXX51TEgUaP4kIZIxVAMkYNDVzwaRbGikv7bGBgY/edit#gid=1408598601

Look at your time stamp at EVGA and compare to this speadsheet. Each tab is for a different card. I signed up for all of them.

I have been doing this with Dell 9020 MT "mini towers". If careful can buy them for around 90 to 100 bucks. This with 8 gigs of ram and 500 gigs of disk. I put an upgraded GPU older 1030 gpu an 16 gigs what's nice it supports upto 32 gigs ram.

You can also buy and I have 6 to 24 pin adapter an larger power supply.

I couldn't give a toss red or blue team. I just want my computer to be a banger.
Hence why I went with AMD for the CPU but I'll go NVIDIA for the card upgrade most likely (Plus I don't wanna fuck around changing drivers)

They won't mellow down, they're going to get worse unfortunately.
I'm using a 1070ti and when the 2000 series dropped I couldn't justify the price/performance for the 2080 or 2080ti.
I'm going to see what AMD has to offer or wait on 3080's to come back in stock. I was disappointed with the 3070 only having 8gb of VRAM. Modern titles have no problems maxing that out at 1440p.

Yea I have a 1070ti also. I was going to get a 3070 but like you was a bit disappointed in the 8GB. So I'm going with the 3080 whenever I can get one that is. My buddy is pretty close on the EVGA stock list but it's looking like end of December before his turn comes up. I have a lot of older games I need to get through anyways so I'm in no rush.
