Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

It amazes me just how many videos there are on YouTube of guys just peddling in rumours about this kind of stuff. One in particular that bothers me in the Moore’s Law is Dead guy. All he’s doing is just spouting off shit from forums while talking about his nameless sources, and then when one of his rumours turns out to be true he goes on for two minutes “well I said this was going to happen”. I hate the guy’s smug face.
When there's a market for fake news for people like @rob mafia, someone is always willing to step up and make that news.

HOW is Big Navi lookin?

we'll know tomorrow, i guess. it's (6800xt) rumoured to have a little better fps than the 3080 but significantly worse ray tracing. but i haven't heard anything about pricing.

Like Raytracing in minecraft looks great, but I don't really know if I'd miss a feature I've never had.

the 6800xt is ~on par with the 3080 (probably worse at ray tracing) for $649 (11/18)

the 6900xt looks on par/a bit better than the 3090 for $999 (12/8)

amd is apparently disrupting the entire gaming market.

Will this force Nvidia to drop the retail price of their GPUs to match?

Maybe if they ever have stock again. pretty sure every card has sold through now, or near enough. What I really hope happens is a ton of people cancel their orders so I can get my 3080 quicker.

what gpus?

<[analyzed}>

(and i dunno, probably not the 3080. would probably affect their new (ti/super) ones, though)

Exactly what I hope happens as well. I can't get a fucking 3080 for shit.

place I ordered mine says they'll get them early january. Depending on availability of Zen3 cpus and when I can get one of them I could be waiting a while on either.
750 watt small form factor psus are also gone everywhere, place I ordered that thing says they'll be in stock early december. Going to be a long ass winter just refreshing order pages.

Yeah I am in the market for one as well although it's not urgent.

Yea it's not urgent for me either my 1070ti is still doing well. I've put some games on the back burner waiting for it though (Control, RDR2).

Personally, parity isn't enough to warrant jumping ship from Nvidia. The last time I gave Radeon a chance it felt like a huge headache, and all my issues evaporated after installing my first Nvidia card. It's good for the market place though, and I wouldn't mind more competitive pricing (although I'm not convinced that will happen at 50 dollars less). It is reasonable to expect that it would, but PC enthusiasts aren't thrifty as a rule so I wonder how much difference it will really make in terms of demand for 3080s.

For myself, after 3rd party reviews come in, I wouldn't really consider an AMD card unless it was like 75 dollars cheaper with the same performance or 20% more powerful at the same price.

I'd need a good $100 off to even consider it and even then it would most likely be a no. Just like you I had issues with my 290 and I said never again. Ever since I've switched to Nvidia I haven't had any issues similar to that at all. I'm not frugal when it comes to gaming I'll spend my money as I need to.
