Just bought a Raspberry Pi 4 with the hopes of making it a retro gaming console. Any advice? I know next to nothing about computers so it should be a good learning experience for me as well.
I got the case covered. Also got two SNES controllers but if they suck I'll just use my PS4 controllers. The Pi 4 can run hot so get a case with a fan, or at least get some heatsinks. You can 3d print a case if you have one or know someone who does.
Make sure to get a Class 10 micro SD card, something like this. If you want the best of the best card, @Madmick would be the guy to ask.
The easiest way to get games up and running is to find a premade image that will install the OS, emulator, and games. I don't know how much farther we can talk about it without breaking the rules.
There's lot of USB Retro controllers for each system on places like Amazon and ebay, but a lot of them are junk. The PI has Bluetooth so you can use your Xbox or PlayStation controller. 8Bitdo makes some good controllers, but they're kind of spendy.
I live right next to a Micro Center so what do I know.
hurr durr.
these just came out like 2 weeks ago. https://www.microcenter.com/product...-xt-dual-fan-12gb-gddr6-pcie-40-graphics-card

weird that they sold for retail, amirite? i mean, you just said that they mark everything up and don't even sell open box at msrp, but these had "25+" and sold out in like an hour... at, you know, msrp.
these are some of the dumbest lies to ever tell. especially after i posted the 5800x selling for less than msrp...
Those 6700 xt's did not go for $479.99.

I watched them drop. You keep posting stuff that's sold out of and are taking it as price they actually sold for. I believe they were like $850 and they all sold out the day they were released.

I don't give a fuck if you believe me because that is what I saw and people here know what you are like.
those 6700XT's 100% went for $479.99
of course, they sold out. they're fucking msrp!
unlike the CPUs, the GPUs are unicorns.

As far as SD cards I got this

Preloaded with games. It was kind of an impulse buy but it got good reviews
ok. that is what you think. you are entitled to think that way if you want.
An arcade stick is nice to have if you're going to play arcade games. You can use Xbox 360 or PS3 on the PI, which you can usually pick up at a decent price used.
Don't be afraid to pick up another SD card and play around with it. You can install a desktop OS, try Kodi which is a media player, use it as a Minecraft server, try Steam Link to play games on your Pi from your main gaming PC, try out Pi-Hole, etc. There's so much cool stuff you can do with a Pi. If you're playing around with something and you screw it up, just format the SD card and start again.
There were many different variations of the 6700xt that had a manufacturer price anywhere from 480-880 from what I saw at Microcenter when I checked on them at launch. Different board partners had different prices. Those 6700 xt's did not go for $479.99. I watched them drop. You keep posting stuff that's sold out of and are taking it as price they actually sold for. I'm not proving your point. You don't understand the pricing of graphics card at retail prices. The 6700XT for example has a MSRP suggestion of 479$. That's for the AMD version of the card. They have board partners, ASUS, XFX, Sapphire, Gigabyte, MSI etc that makes cards for them. Each of these manufacturers takes a raw design from AMD, then add on components to the board, depending on what components they add on to the board, the price their MSRP would go up. 4Tell me what card is $880. You are proving my point.

^Like this card, this is the price on Asus website from a google cache. These are the actual prices of the cards, microcenter isn't marking cards up because of a shortage.
If you want to be technical douche, TSMC designs the GPU. Then AMD designs a card around it.
I wasn't getting technical....i gave the version that would be equivalent to say base model price of a car, and adding options to it at a dealer, and the dealer price being higher than what the base model's MSRP would be.By "techsplaining" how a gpu is made is to @Prefect.
