Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

Personally I'd rather have the 32gb of 2400 vs the 16gb 3200mhz. I'm a firm believer that if you have a Ryzen 5 or Intel i5 you should be running 32gb, especially at these price. 16gb can be had for around $60 these days. Wait until next paycheck to pick your additional 16gb, mow some lawns, sell a couple of your porcelain clown collectibles, etc.
This depends on the games you're running as well. Of course if you're just playing DOTA or other "esports" titles you don't need 32gb. But games like COD Warzone, Division 2, or Borderlands 3 will use all 16gb and hit the page file. This is even more enhanced if you have a second monitor running Youtube, Discord, etc. This is one of those instances where benchmarks don't tell the whole story. If you're continually bouncing off that page file, frame pacing will suffer.
Interesting. If I'm using an i7-9700k, is it still beneficial to upgrade to 32gb of ram for gaming, assuming I play more demanding games like the ones you mentioned? Everything I've read says 16gb is enough.

Here's a quick example of 16gb vs 32gb. Notice the FPS isn't that much different, but look at the frame time pacing graph

Does that test control for memory rank and module count?

Those can affect framerates as well as frametime (even if the CPU/motherboard only supports dual memory channel support).

I play on a single tv, but I have a decent amount going on in the background while I game. Might as well upgrade to 32gb then, seeing as RAM is pretty cheap now and games are only getting more demanding.

I noticed you said tv, are you using a tv instead of a monitor?

Don’t upgrade your ram, save that money for a monitor. That’s way more important.
I'm using my PC for couch gaming. It's a 4K 120hz tv. I have no intention of using this PC at a desk with a monitor.

MSI has been killing it with customer feedback. Haven't had any issues with them, myself. Still, GN didn't spare the rod with this video:

Although if you read the comments even MSI doesn't come off the worst. ASRock straight up blacklisted Steve from Hardware Unboxed / Techspot due to negative reviews of their Z490 motherboards. Now that's some serious bullshit. That's the sort of thing where I harbor a grudge even when I'm not directly affected.

I know Asrock was spun off years ago but I can’t get over that budget stigma and I’ve never really considered them for one of my builds.
The Taichi line seems to be very popular though.
For those that don’t know, Asus started Asrock as an OEM supplier for prebuilts.

Asus is releasing Gundam themed components in Japan. I know nothing about Gundam but that white case looks bad ass.

Giant Gundam approved.

Last night i enabled XMP. For 5-6 hours of gaming it worked fine. Moment i loaded up VLC to watch a movie during dinner it crashed. With the LED on the motherboard indicating ram wasnt recognized(even though their LED's were active). Had to remove the cmos battery. Which is a pain in the ass with where my tower is located.
