Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

Oh what the fuck

I bought a Kingston Hyper X Cloud 2 headset on Madmicks advice a few years ago. Great headphones. The USB soundcard dongle died and they don't make new replacements anymore so I bought the universal Kingston dongle.

I went to play Crysis 1 and the sound was fucked. I troubleshooted for an hour and was stuck in windows settings faced with 1 option. 16 bit audio 16000hz

I went back and forth and found I can disable part of it and get audio at 16 bit 48000hz

I've been listening to music for almost a year at tapedeck quality and didn't know it.

Fuck this Kingston USB thing sucks. I'm going to Best Buy tomorrow to see if they have something better

You can buy a headphone/microphone cable splitter and just plug your headphone/mic into your motherboard. As long as your motherboard is somewhat decent you should be fine.

If you want cheap, get an Apple USB-C to 3.5mm dongle for $9.

I've got a Sabertooth z77 motherboard with built in Realtek sound software. I believe its a pretty good setup. If I switch to the chassis 3.5mm jack I can do sound bitrate up to 19x,000 "studio quality". I think I will go your route. I bought the XKE after all, but never posted pics in that thread. I was thinking of going to Best Buy with it today as an excuse to drive it. Ill see if they have a splitter or another dongle but their website doesn't show one in store.

That reminds me, I've got an obsolete chip size on my motherboard. Its an LGA 1155 with an i7-3770 chip. I cannot upgrade the chip to a modern i7/9/10. Can I hotswap the motherboard and chip with my current windows installed harddrive? Or is the bios-motherboard paired with the info thats configured into that windows install.

I think I googled it a while back and I would have to do a clean install of windows if I changed the motherboard.

Since you have a z77 mobo, you won't be able to use that USB-C dongle I posted above. You might be able to find the cable at best buy.

My MSI board automatically reconfigured Windows when switching from Intel to AMD last year. Ideally its best to do a fresh install though. For you will experience minor errors eventually that could lead to catastrophic OS errors.

How do you guys feel about DLSS and DirectML? Is it going to be used by the majority eventually

Is it likely that the next Nintendo consoles will be using it?

rumour (and some benchmarks) is that the 3090 isn't much better than the 3080, with ~4-11% increases (generally 6-9, iirc). so it looks like the 3080 might be the sweet spot for a while.

still waiting on big navi's announcement next month, but i suspect nvidia will have the performance lead and amd should have the perf:$ lead.

not sure how i feel about this, i kinda wish amd put big navi on the backburner and used the tsmc allotment to crank out more renoir/cezanne... but i'm going to be biased there.

2nd time in a row I've gone to Best Buy and they wouldn't help me.

At least 6 employees wandering around the store doing solitary tasks and I asked one where something was. She didn't know so she said I had to go to the front of the store to be put on a list to ask questions. Before she said that she looked 75 feet away at the PC sales guy who was by himself on a computer.

She could have said "go ask that guy"

Its unfortunate because I like going to best buy to see new tech, but there is little reason to not shop online when they go out of their way to not help you.

Might be store policy. I wouldn't be so quick to blame the individual. I have been in enough work related situations where the egos of the management don't leave room for suggestions from anyone.. even if they could potentially improve a company as a whole. When that worker looked over at the pc guy she might have been thinking to herself that she could just direct you him but she might get in trouble...

Still sucks though.

Suck it bots better models coming soon..

Gigabyte may have accidentally confirmed that Nvidia’s upcoming Super graphics cards will feature twice as much memory as their standard counterparts. Although, it’s more of a reconfirmation for the RTX 3070: Lenovo’s similar error from a few weeks back already hinted at an upgrade for the series.

On their website, Gigabyte has a list of graphics cards that will come bundled with a free copy of Watch Dogs: Legion. Included are five unannounced cards: an “N306S 8GD” model, two “N307S 16 GD” models, and two “N308S 20GD” models.

My local Best Buy is great with employees. It's almost to the point of being annoying with the amount of people that ask if you need help or try to push something.
It's times like those that makes a person miss Radio Shack.

Its an issue with the current covid store policy. Go be put on a list to ask a question instead of asking the employees that aren't doing anything.

Yes the employees are usually very helpful.

make sure to plug your headphones in motherboard's rear panel socket, not your computer case front panel.

I thought this was funny about the 3080 an Crysis remastered. That being said I would rather hear the question will it run Microsoft Flight Simulator cool.

"During a recent interview with PC Gamer, the game’s project lead Steffen Halbig said that “in 4K, there is no card out there which can run it in ‘Can it Run Crysis’ mode at 30 fps.” I tested that claim out for myself with the same test bench I used to review the RTX 3080: Intel i9-10900K, Asus ROG Maximus XII, 16 GB (8 GB x 2) G.Skill Trident Z Royal 2133 Mhz, Samsung 970 Evo 500 GB M.2 PCIe SSD, Corsair H150i Pro RGB 360mm AIO cooler, and Seasonic 1000W PSU. While running the game with every graphics setting cranked to the max will still net you just above 30 fps, that frame rate is by no means consistent. Like the Metro Exodus and Control ray tracing 4K tests I did for my RTX 3080 review, Crysis: Remastered will also cycle between stutters, freezes, and smooth frame rates. But gosh it looks so pretty!"

Can it run crysis is a meme and I get that. However, control and metro still having issues with this hardware is telling...

What exactly were they designing these games on? What we're their performance targets? This news tells me they didn't have any performance targets and said fuck it...

Doom eternal is a clinic on game optimization.

Do you mean with Ray-Tracing on? That will break any card. The newer cards have fewer tensor cores.

Metro Exodus @4:11
Control @7:08 (this one has DLSS 2.0, so it's worth turning on)

Of that there is no doubt.

Interesting... Wolfenstein young blood runs really well with rtx on.. you even get decent performance on the etc 20 series.

I wonder what tech that runs on...

you're welcome bros
