But we're there now. From the time of the GFC until the pandemic recovery, the economy was a bit depressed so more spending (whether private or public) drove more growth. Then we had a brief period where the economy was way overheated so more spending diverted resources from other uses. Inflation has come down a lot so we're not really overheated, but spending increases do carry resource tradeoffs at this point.
