Found two articles about why Fedor was declining in 2009/2008

No too much media obligations caused Ronda to not train properly for Holly. Nunes however was just a bad match up for Ronda, only way she was winning that one was to take a beating like Alpha Cat and wait for Nunes to gas and then sub her.
... no. Ronda stood with holly. She thought it was a good idea, her coach obviously didn't follow any wmma or boxing and jsut thought this chick he's conning is gonna beat all the other girls.

Edmund literally told her between rounds that she's winning the stand up! in both fights! The man yelled head movement and it became a meme.

Strikeforce ronda subs nunez and holm while not being "too" retarded.
Neither of them were ever as dominant as Ronda, hell even now.

This is totally wrong, but I don’t have the time right now to correct you. Maybe later when I’m off the clock.

He gave an interview before his rematch w Kosaka where he said he had hand problems and it made it hard for him to train for this fight. It was on a Bushido both he and his brother fouight on. He was a little fatter than usual. He said even running was hard with his hand being like it was

Thanks for the info. Do not remember that one. It makes perfect sense.

yeah man what he said...It isnt the way i saw the fight either. I think they meant to crowd holly and then throw her,but Ronda found out she didnt have the tools to do that,Holly's footwork was too good..and had to resort to the same shit over and over. I think Ronda was more affected by Holly's precision punches than she expected. She never been in there with someone who knew how to box that well in a real fight. She felt it right away.

Like they probably trained her in footwork and head movement and everything.
But whatever it was she probably needed alot more time with it..it wasnt enough. All that media def had to be part of it.
But she got clocked a few time and just went on autopilot of what she normally would try to do. This is a consequence of her having not much ring time, and things coming easy to this point.

I wouldn't say she was soley trying to stand with her but compared to her earlier career I do think you see she's clearly a lot more focused on it. What punches early Rousey used to throw were soley as cover to move into the clinch ASAP were as vs Holly she's throwing with alot more power which makes it much easier for Holm to side step as in that gif I posted.

I suspect part of the problem for her was that she wasnt getting totally dominated by Holm as well, she was landing a few decent punchs which were enough for her to believe Edmunds BS and carry on fighting the same way.

She did rock Holm at one point, which knocked her moutpiece out

Unless those articles include the fact that he was constantly breaking his hands in training, I wouldn’t read too much into them

The objective truth regarding Fedor’s eventual fall was that his hands were so diminished that he had to completely reinvent his game into headhunting for early finishes because he knew his hands wouldn’t last. His original style of furious and heavy GNP — where he’d be punching anything within orbit, even if it meant punching straight bone and even canvass — was simply not sustainable over the long haul

I think he lost interest in training hard when Pride folded. Its hard to keep the training regiment going when he didn't have a relatively packed schedule like Pride's.

Its a fight were honest analysis mostly doesnt exist on Sherdog because it was the ultimate basement alpha/incel fantasy of Rousey getting humbled.

Holm won the first round but Rousey was landing a few shots on her, enough to give her hope and the finish itself was a bit of a low percentage situation.

How Rousey looking to take Holm down more would have done honestly is I think quite hard to say.

Yeah. She hastened her demise by continuing to come forward but its not like she couldnt just get picked apart at long range...but if Holly had thrown her kicks to the leg or body...maybe Rousey would grab one and force a TD. I dunno.

Yeah as a champion he got to fight whoever he felt like it besides the contenders as well. Usually to stack cards.

Also it was easier for the Russians to fly over to Japan than the states?

I suspect he also lost interest post Affliction as well, there he was basically finishing off the biggest matches of his era, Sylvia, Arlovski and Barnett and of course had hopes of fighting Randy.

Werdum is a big fight in retrospect but it wasnt at the time.

The problem with Rousey is that the level of competition had risen to the point where her basic straight line movement wasn't enough.

Fedor and probably all of the other Russian fighters stay in the western part of Russia closer to Europe so jet lag would still be bad.

this is a good thread.

the nasty licker approves!

Not enough to really make a difference, east coast USA would be almost the same.

Russian fighters ending up in Japan a lot really goes back to their being links to Japanese pro wrestling way back with Inoki in the 70's and 80's which RINGS moved more into Sambo with Volk Han and Russian Top Team which brought over alot of Russian sambo guys including Fedor.

That sort of success comes with extreme training.

I read an interview with Roman Zentsov, who trained with Fedor during his PRIDE success, and he said his body literally could not take the intensity of training with Fedor constantly.

And Zentsov was not what you’d call a snowflake.

It does also highlight another aspect of fighters decline, its not just being less physically gifted in the fight its being less able to train with the intesnity needed to maintain a certain skill level.

Vito'r TRT for example I don't think it was a case of just his physical abilties on it, I mean Vitor had more muscle than that several times in the past and wasnt nearly as dangerous, Rather I think it was the TRT allowed him to train with the intesenity needed to pickup those skills from Hooft.

Old dogs generally can't learn new tricks partly because they can't train with the intensity needed to pick them up.
