Gen x is weird as fuck...that should be the most conservative base. Although canadian pollsters don't distinguish between likely / registered voters so I don't know how modelers are weighting their probabilities.
I'm Gen-X and you are right. We were the original McJob generation. The earliest of the generation kind of still got the boomer entitled jobs while the latter were the first to realize that they weren't going to do as well their parents -- and just gave up. A lot of Gen-Xers still take their cues from the CBC and CTV. They need it in 4 mins and someone else to form their opinion for them.
Since you know my backstory I'll tell you something interesting. My ugrad graduating class was a split between people living like their parents life -- job, house and marriage, right out of school -- while others (like me) had no plan. Knowing people that graduated just before us, the graduates all went straight into jobs. I'm pretty sure our class, or the previous one, was the first to have some aimless people. I ended up staying in touch with the 'unconventional' crew and they're all still doing unconventional things. One guy literally lives off the land, another just sails everywhere, and another (close friend) became a swim instructor after graduation.
