Following someone to the ground after a knockdown is the worst thing you can do

Most of the time the guy will be too fucked up to gather his senses and stand up and the ref will need to stop it. If the ref doesn't stop it the guy who just got fucked up will have to stand and bang with you. There is literally zero reason to follow someone to the ground to finish them off. It's also a baller move which make you look better for the judges in case the person isn't finished.

I just rewatched coyboy Oliveria vs Ryan Leflare and Cowboy punches him and walks away and the ref has to stop the fight even thought Leflare is squirming around. If Cowboy hopped on him it would provide an excuse to not stop the fight.

Just bleed bro.

Best to wait for ref to stand them up and head kick them to the leg.

This is the only acceptable way to follow someone down

Except there are plenty of times where you should

Getting stood up by the ref leads to said rocked fighter taking their sweet ass time to get up while the ref has separated the other guy from being able to beat the rocked person senseless.

They also never stop the fight during these sequences and it just gives said rocked fighter more time to recover while they stall getting back up.

Depends on the situation really. Lots of times a fighter has followed the hurt fighter down and finished them with the strikes. So saying they made a mistake when they won the fight that way is incorrect

TS actually suggesting that A Silva did the right thing here by walking away?

Sometimes it's great when fighters hold back, like Jacare did against Weidman. But there have been times where it backfired. And the rules clearly state to keep going until the ref stops it.

It's a problem that doesn't need solving. Every once in awhile someone gets a little extra, like Bisping v Hendo I and Pettis v Wonderboy last weekend. But the fighters don't complain. They know the deal. You should too, TS.

GSP was wrong for following up on Bisping. Pettis was wrong for following up on wonderboy. Cerrone was wrong for following up on half his opponents.

You’re right. They’re all wrong.

In a lot of cases this is a better strategy, but it varies on a case by case basis.

If the fighter stranding has a significant standup advantage, then it could be a good idea.

Do they have lethal ground and pound?

Is the guy on the ground a BJJ blackbelt?

What isn't used enough is the flying elbow to the downed opponent. I'd like to see that implemented on a more frequent basis.
