Opinion First Thing: Trump says he is firing Fed governor Lisa Cook in escalating attack on bank’s independence

Hilarious. Cabinets full of yes men.

Nepotism and only hiring people who will kiss his ass.

And now saving anyone that gets in his way.

What a mess this guy is going to leave
Gonna be pretty funny to watch these assholes cry when a democrat takes over and does the same shit because Trump and scotus made it the new norm. Funny and sad.

We're sort of in new territory. Trump feels the fed is making a mistake. The mistake is hurting his economic agenda. Americans are being hurt by higher interest rates. Many feel the same way, that the fed is hurting the economy keeping interest rates higher than most other countries in the world. Some speculate that the Fed chief is being political. He lowered interest rates while Harris was running against Trump to be President. Now that Trump is President the fed chief Powell stopped lowering even though the inflation situation has improved.

If Cook is gone, she isn't taking her firing well, Trump will put someone new on the fed board, an ally, and someone who could help over ride Powell. As one economic writer I follow has said, there is now a ghost fed board - basically Powell isn't as important as he used to be.
What's the economic writer's name?

So America, including minorities, voted to get rid of DEI policies because they're all just racist? You're not THAT lazy are you?

Ah yes, it's a shame those black people didn't have you there to tell them what's best for them, right? You guys really didn't learn a thing from the 2024 election.
Do you really think anyone that voted for Trump agrees with all his policies?

I don't like this one bit. If anything rates should go higher.
It's going to be disastrous. There is a reason inflation and interest rates typically have an inverse relationship.

Trump has created inflationary pressures with tariffs and he wants the simple political hit of lower interest rates, knowing that it will also increase inflationary pressures.

He's got a point though, DEI is increasingly used as a code word for "nonwhite person I don't think deserves their position" by some on the right which is why even the mayor of Baltimore, an elected position, was called a "DEI hire"

Most racists are pretty obvious to spot but they will have their defenders even if only because of political affiliation. In Charlottesville it was white supremacists that set up the rally but MAGA folk and conservatives will wave that away and make claims like that it was just good folks protesting statues being taken down or something like that.

At least you have a degree in economics and can understand the function of interest rates. Some people would just have it always set to zero because that's what Trump wants. And if there's one thing we can be certain of is that Trump isn't thinking of himself he's truly concerned about the average citizen.

Hahahahahahahahaha! Was that your stance while Trump was on trial? I seem to recall a lot of "everybody does it" excuses coming from our MAGA members...🤔

Was this Lisa not vetted before joining fed and she was cleared?
As I understand it this alleged mortgage fraud happened before that.

I don't know that she was specifically cleared of this before she was hired. Her firing though seems to be obviously politically motivated.

How does MAGA see this as beneficial? Are there any historic examples of a leader going after central bank in this way that turned out positive? I can't imagine any scenario that this ends up being a good move.

Maga doesn’t even know what this will cause. They just go with whatever their daddy says.

You misspelled mortgage fraudster and BLM activist. At this point it would be a tall order to find one of these DEI bozos who hasn't committed mortgage fraud, grifted donations to buy mansions, or gave big payouts of public money to their fuck buddy.

oh this is rich coming from a trump supporter - trump, the real estate billionaire is a beacon of honesty and should decide who gets fired for fraud? gtfo.
