Finnegan's Wake

Where did you fail on bench? I probably would not have done 295 if I was going for 315...

I failed pretty much off the chest. I just had nothing on it. I got it maybe 6 inches up and stalled. 295 went up pretty easy, but pushing is a fickle bitch.

175 lb dumbbells? Badass...my gym only goes to 135. I get huge bruises on my wrists with the heavier dumbbells from where the plates hit them. I guess I need to make/buy some actual farmers handles

I took 18 inch long pipes and made my own long dumbells out of them. I'd like to make some farmer's walk handles too. This just didn't work as well as I had hoped.

MMA

Sparring:

Kickboxing:
3 minute rounds x 5.
Sparred w/ the 275 lb guy today. He is both taller and has a longer reach, so this was new. I worked shell defense more today. I did well w/ low kicks, esp. left low kicks, and angling out for jabs. We were about even in shots landed. I ate a couple of straight punches as he got the timing down on my shelling. I landed a superman punch and liver kick as my highlights for this one.

Ground N Pound Sparring:
5 minute rounds x 2
I went against the same guy the first round. Got a single leg and mount. He defended very well w/ bucking and his longer reach. I switched to side mount and the round ended.
Second round, I went against the instructor. I did better than last time. Kept it standing a bit longer by circling away. Got back into gaurd when it went down and kept him from dominating the position game. He got mount at one point. I basically shelled and defended much as my previous opponent did and reversed him to gaurd. Lots of transitions this time. When we got back to our feet, I landed another superman punch, jabbed out, and landed a right low kick for my best combo of the night. He faked a shot and nearly took my head off with an overhand right that I leaned into as I started to sprawl. He got an ankle pick off of this and ended the round in my half gaurd.

Rolling:
Rolled w/ instructor for a 10 minute round. Brutal. No submissions for either of us. We worked mainly on reversals/ dominating positions.

Grappling:
Intro to grappling in the clinch
Covered three different hip tosses
duckunders
whizzers
pummeling
snapdowns

Is was a brief intro, but informative.

Impressions:
Everyone was tired today, so we were all on an even playing field. I ate a few more punches fighting the big guy than I'm used to, but that's okay. He also fought hard in the clinch w/ uppercuts, but ate some gentle knees for his efforts.
My tank didn't start running low until the last round of GnP sparring. I did well enough, but I was done after that. All in all a good day.

Density Day:

Sledgehammer swings
See how many times I could sledgehammer a tire in 10 minutes.

Sledgehammer swings: 487 in 10 minutes, 500 in 10:25.

10 minute rest

100 Dumbell Snatch Challenge:

See how long it takes to do 100 dumbell snatches w/ 35 lbs dumbell

100 snatches, 2:43 seconds.

Impressions:
Technical difficulties really hurt my time on the sledges. I put another hole in it. Its done. It caved in 40 times or so and bounced all over the yard. Not happy with this today.
The snatches went well.

Im more upset about this every minute. I REALLY want the top spot on this challenge and you crushed my old time. The misery that will be required to beat 2:43 will not be fun...

Thanks guys. I had no idea I got the best time until I came on here to enter my time. I'll get it on video next time I do it for verification.

I did 45's before with a thick bar dumbell. My time sucked though. (5 and some change).

As far after the swings, I think it helped. I was already used to hyperactive shoulder motions. Kind of like doing cleans after a deadlift. Doing a couple minutes of sledge would have been better, but I had plenty of rest between the exercises.

who says conditioning is a small man's game? definitely an impressive time. what was your rep scheme, if you remember?

25 each arm
10 each arm
5 each arm
10 each arm

Busting them out in a big first set lets the first arm recover quickly, so use your less durable arm (since I do a lot of bagwork/ sparring, I jab a lot, so my left is my more durable arm) . This way, your best arm is doing the most work w/ minimal rest.

damn, that's a good strategy, thank you sir.

i wanna try it in a few days when im less sore. hoping for something below 10 mins since im weak and about as well conditioned as chris farley.

Dude, Chris Farley this very definition of big boy conditioning. He was backflips over hookers onto piles of cocaine for hours on end before he died.
Okay, so the cocaine probably helped.

hahaha. i've read his autobiography and apparently he wasn't fat either! he just liked the convenience of storing massive amounts of cocaine under his skin for ease of use.

Bagwork:

5 three minute rounds. One minute rest between rounds. Focus was on keeping hands up and good footwork.

Rd 1: Double End bag 1-1, 1-1-2, 1-2 circling right
Rd 2: Heavybag Lead left low kick-1-2-1 (jab out)
Rd 3: Double end bag: 1-2 (shell block)
Rd 4: Heavybag Superman punch-right low kick, 1-SP-RLK
Rd 5: Double End bag: 1-2 (shell)-1, 1-2 (shell)-2

Core Circuit:
Circuit repeated three times, no rest between exercises, 1 minute rest between circuits.
10 ab wheel rollouts
10 three second crunches
10 second vacuum x 5

Impressions:
The Superman punch is just a difficult move to really string together another attack with. I tried SP-1-RLK, but that was just a footwork nightmare.
Accuracy on the double end bag is coming along nicely in these short combos.
Not the best session I've had, but after today's sledge and snatch challenges, I'm comfortable with it.

I've been stacking RPM and Drive for 2-3 weeks now and I don't know what to think. I had some strength gains but I can chalk that up to good rest and food.

I just feel like I could down a whole bottle of RPM and Drive and fall asleep. How do you feel when you take them?

I think these kind of products are better suited for cardio workouts than heavy lifting. The only time I've felt a stimulant was after many rounds of intensive sparring.
