Sparring:
Kickboxing:
3 minute rounds x 5.
Sparred w/ the 275 lb guy today. He is both taller and has a longer reach, so this was new. I worked shell defense more today. I did well w/ low kicks, esp. left low kicks, and angling out for jabs. We were about even in shots landed. I ate a couple of straight punches as he got the timing down on my shelling. I landed a superman punch and liver kick as my highlights for this one.
Ground N Pound Sparring:
5 minute rounds x 2
I went against the same guy the first round. Got a single leg and mount. He defended very well w/ bucking and his longer reach. I switched to side mount and the round ended.
Second round, I went against the instructor. I did better than last time. Kept it standing a bit longer by circling away. Got back into gaurd when it went down and kept him from dominating the position game. He got mount at one point. I basically shelled and defended much as my previous opponent did and reversed him to gaurd. Lots of transitions this time. When we got back to our feet, I landed another superman punch, jabbed out, and landed a right low kick for my best combo of the night. He faked a shot and nearly took my head off with an overhand right that I leaned into as I started to sprawl. He got an ankle pick off of this and ended the round in my half gaurd.
Rolling:
Rolled w/ instructor for a 10 minute round. Brutal. No submissions for either of us. We worked mainly on reversals/ dominating positions.
Grappling:
Intro to grappling in the clinch
Covered three different hip tosses
duckunders
whizzers
pummeling
snapdowns
Is was a brief intro, but informative.
Impressions:
Everyone was tired today, so we were all on an even playing field. I ate a few more punches fighting the big guy than I'm used to, but that's okay. He also fought hard in the clinch w/ uppercuts, but ate some gentle knees for his efforts.
My tank didn't start running low until the last round of GnP sparring. I did well enough, but I was done after that. All in all a good day.
