Finnegan's Wake

So have you been saving up for a power cage's supplies, mr. blacksmith!?

Actually yes. I've got a few things to fix on my car first (motor mounts, new tires, etc) . After that is cleared up, I'll have some freed up cash. Right now, I'm very happy to be driving a Ford Festiva that gets 42 miles per gallon.

...I gotta tell ya man....when I think "blacksmith" and "zerchers by the campfire", Ford Festiva doesn't work. I was picturing a beat up truck with a gun rack and atleast one hound in the back.

well, that's honorable, at least (the mileage), if not completely out of what I perceived to be your character. God bless the internets.

i'm excited to see how you build the rack. are you thinking of plans in your head?

I'm leaning toward 2" angle iron and brackets. I'd like to be able to take it apart. I probably won't be doing much forging, but I'll add some decorative stuff (ram or dragon heads on the ends of the rack bars, for instance).
If that doesn't pan out, I think I can make it out of heavy pipes with a little bit of gas welding.

The project should be in the 150-250 dollar range, depending on what I can find at the scrapyard.

Dumbell Snatches: 30 x 15, 2 sets 30 x 10, 1 set Total: 70 each arm

Impressions: Damn. This was a good conditioning circuit for the upper body. My arms are jello (except for my left forearm, which for some reason feels as if it is made of mohagany). Kept my heartrate way up, and was anaerobic most of the time.
edit: My math sucked after this workout. I had 35's on the bar. 70+45=115, not 95.

Yeah, 2" should do the trick. Do you have a pretty badass drill press for all the holes? Or are you gonna do it another way?

I'll be using a hand drill for most of it. The larger holes I will use a 1/2 inch metal cutting bit, then a conical grinding bit to widen them to one inch. And before you ask, I've drilled through a trailer hitch with a hand drill before, so yeah I know what I'm getting myself into.

Hahaha, you're way more manlier than I am. What a pain in the ass drilling is. It'd even be a pain with a press. Kudos!

And god DAMN I just watched your Zercher vid. That was an awesome lift. You are a strong dude.

Deep Squat (not quite ATG, but getting there)
135 x 5
205 x 5
255 x 5

Zercher Squat
255 x 3 (off the collars)
275 x 3 (off the floor)
305 x 3 (off of cinder blocks)

Misc: Some hack squats, a lot of experimenting, etc

Impressions: I need to just stop working out in the morning. I do way better at night. I tried a variety of positions for starting out the Zercher squats. I'll finish up tonight with lunges or something.

Megalith Construction

I spent two days at a festival grounds, the same as before, helping out with various projects. We snazzed up the firepit by putting 8 chest high standing stones that we pulled out the creek. It gives it a stone circle look. We also put in a massive stone bench. Exercise wise, it was two days of lifting, pushing, shoveling, etc. I'm fatigued but not sore.

I spun fire for the first time. I did flaming sword and fire staff. I'll video it eventually. The goal is to get good enough to have a choreographed fight with flaming weapons by next year.

Good work.

And that fire spinning would be really cool to see.

Bench Day, Pt. 1

Bench Press
205 x 3
225 x 3
245 x 3
275 x 3
300 x 3

Push Press
115 x 5
135 x 5
155 x 5
165 x 3
175 x 3

Impressions: Bench Press went up nice and smooth. I'll be going back to 5x5 shortly on this and upping the weight.
Push press was sloppy. My shoulders were evidently a little more fatigued than I thought (firespinning takes a lot of them). I was going for 5x5, but didn't quite make it. I'll pick up the rest tonight.

Variated grips speed Bench Press
245 x 5 (wide grip)
245 x 5 (normal grip)
245 x 5 (close grip)
235 x 5 (wide grip)
235 x 12 (normal grip)

Strict OP
115 x 8
135 x 8
145 x 8 (some leg drive on last 2 reps)

Heavy Hammer Negatives
55 x 3 (average time: 25 seconds)

Misc: some light core work, underhanded grip dumbell bendover rows

Impressions:
I focused on speed for the bench press this evening. My elbow injury doesn't allow me to lower the bar all the way to my chest on the close grip benches, but other than that my form held up pretty well.
The 235 x 12 set to see how many times I could bench my bodyweight. I'll do this again when I'm fresh to get a better picture of it.
The dumbell underhand grip bendover row was just silly at only 55 lbs. It would take a lot more weight to make it worth while.

Zercher Deadlift
205 x 5
255 x 5
275 x 5
300 x 5
325 x 5 (4 rep PR)

Speed Deadlift
325 x 3
345 x 3
375 x 3

BORs
205 x 5
225 x 5
245 x 5

Pullups
5, 3 sets

Misc.
Zercher Goodmornings (115 x 5, 1 set) sloppy Glute Ham raises (10)

Impressions:
I had a new problem on the Zerchers today. On the 325 set, my feet were TOO CLOSE together, and I ended up doing what basically amounted to a stiff leg Zercher Deadlift on the first and second rep. Ouch.
Speed deads are odd. I'll have to work on these as my form sucked (tilting bar mostly).
I'll use the Zercher Goodmornings as an active recovery exercise. They werent bad. I tried to figure out a way to do glute ham raises tonight. I rolled up a carpet remnant to use as the fulcrum, and the barbell still loaded w/ 325 as a foot stop. They sucked. Lets leave it at that.

damn nice bench man and zerchers. holy crap on 325 for 5 my body just got sore readin that

If I'm going to get to 400lbs, my body will just have to deal with it. If its smart, it'll give it to me fast so I move on to something less taxing. Like organ donation.
