Nothing wrong with big comebacks at all IMHO, if they become too hard I think you loose the tension late in a round were someone tries to eek out the finish whilst still afraid of a comeback, without that people tend to just keep marching forward knowing they will land at some point.
Corner advantage I'v always liked personally but I spose the issue is Drive Rush being just too simple a mechanic? needs something to make it more interesting but I'm not sure what that could be.
I can kind of see why they created Drive Rush to give the game more of a "dramatic moment", I not played SF5 much at all but viewing it the matches did feel a bit mechanical to me with the focus on long(ish) combos which really were not that dramatic as they were rarely dropped, what actually mattered was getting into the combo in the first place and that was played up much less.
I must admit it all seems like a roundabout way to not have 3rd strike style parrying and super confirms in the game to me which would provide the same kind of dramatic moments but with more complexity.
Comebacks are always hype, I just hate when they are too easy to access rather than a skillful comeback. For example, there's a monumental difference between Evo Moment #37 and mashing Rage Arts against an electric in Tekken 7. Part of what makes a comeback hype for me is the "against the odds" victory, but when you make that victory a simple part of the meta the comeback starts to lose its value.
Drive Rush is good in theory, but seeing it more it is too strong for too little trade off. Raw Drive Rush is the main complaint I see most pro players agree on. Raw Drive Rush gives you all of-
-Fast Dash that is unreactable with some characters, able to skip neutral often
-Many negative normals become + on block
-50/50 combo mixups that don't connect become possible
-Some combos that don't connect now can for 1 bar and solid damage
-Regular knockdowns become oki after a Drive Rush
-Only costs 1 bar, the bar is replenished by the time you've completed attack.
-Etc.
Drive Rush is pretty busted lol. It does seem like between that, the current parry, and throw loops, it's like they tried to not have 3rd Strike while adding the feel of 3rd Strike. Or something lol.
Lol, what brought this on?
I thought I posted this here but I see I didn't lol. Mena was complaining hard about Drive Rush, I think that's what brought it on originally. Interesting coming from him as he's not one to complain and just won CEO.
