Fighting Games Discussion

Speaking about fight sticks, I just started back on an old project modding a Hori SCV (RAP-N). I had removed the artwork and drilled a bigger hole for a full collar Korean Fanta lever, gutted the thing and bought a Brook universal fight board then lost steam. I just modified the Fanta to work on the JLF mounting bracket and ordered some more parts for it. A3 switches and a few different grommets, plus a PCB to connect the switches to so I can just use the JLF 5-pin harness and not have to connect each one individually. Also got some Seimitsu buttons and a Neutrik USB pass through. I need to order some kind of vinyl laminate to cover the top plate, thinking a brushed steel looking one. Should be dope when completed.

Anyone else use fight sticks and modify them?

Nice. I use sticks for SF and KOF and pad for Tekken and MK. Weird I know lol.

I more recently heavily modified my Qanba Pearl (Inner parts, buttons, KOF Athena artwork, etc), and my MadCatz TE2 a long while back. I also have the Victrix Pro PS5, Qanba Dragon, Razer Panthera Evo. For pads I have the Hori Fighting Commander V, the new Hori Octo, and the Victrix BFG. I'll probably get the Obsidian 2 soon to try it out.

I could see it getting addicting collecting these things. My first one was a Qanba Q1 which I did artwork/plexi and threw in a Sanwa JLF and buttons. I then moved onto a Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 with a Crown lever and Sanwa buttons. I had a custom top plate for it but it was plastic and I didn't like the hollow feel so went back to steel. Also added a Nuetrik to ditch the cable. Their are a lot of nice new sticks out now but I like modding old ones.

So glad Smoke and Rain made the main cast. So far its looking like Rain is gonna be my main. Wasn't a fan at all of the butchered version of him they put in MK11.

I hate how they redesign their characters every game. I think these are the worst Sub and Scorpion yet.

I think Scorpion and Sub look amazing, at least far from the worst they have looked yet. I really enjoy when they try and give them more personality with their looks instead of being just palette swap ninja. Same with all ninja characters.

It's interesting that you say that, because I feel like they look too similar in this one. I'm glad you like it. I know I'm in the minority here. I think a lot of the outfits in the newer games don't fit thematically. Like, are these bloodthirsty ninjas going to a fashion designer? I always pick the simple skins for them when I can and save the flashy outfits for the flashy characters.
I don't know if anyone mentioned this yet, but I am surprised Mortal Kombat 1 is coming to Switch.

Tekken 7 team tournament. Prize pool of $1,000,000. Knee uses his Bryan.

edit: full 8+ hour day 1 stream.

I've only been using Marisa for 15 minutes and I get Diamond, lol. Nice ranking system.

@MMAisGod what's your routine the day before a tournament and the day of?

I have one tomorrow and I feel like it's better if I don't play today, I had some good matches yesterday and I want to keep that confidence and also stay fresh.

Also I think I get a bit worse if I play all day, when I leave the game for a while and I come back I feel I'm thinking clearer mid match. How about you?

I thought I was the only one lol. Two days before any tournament I'm hyped for I try to super grind. Play tons of matches and preferably grind tough MUs (like before CEO I played 40 matches with GoatGloat against Juri, etc). Then anything that I've learned more recently I'll try to play some matches to specifically do it so I know it's built in muscle memory.

But the day BEFORE I'll play light. I'll still play but more casually and for fun, try to land flashy setups, etc, but not too grindy to avoid the burnout feeling. Then the day OF, I actually won't play too much. I'll play enough to warm up and feel fresh, but I try to watch things and analyze. Feel like by the day of the work is already put in, and you need to have your mind ready more than anything. Typically I play better doing it this was than grinding 6 hours the day before.

Also @what-wut I noticed something in the Master Rank that I think you mentioned recently. I started playing ranked the other day more to get a better feel for SF6 Ranked and shot up to Master pretty quick lol. But in Master itself, I noticed there's a big gap between the players who are like 25-26k Master, and high points Master. Like the people with say 25500 points and 40 hours in ranked, don't even feel better than the 5 Star Diamond players gate keeping each other to get in. But the players at about over 30k feel more solid. If that makes sense. I actually enjoyed it though so I think I'll start playing it a lot more now.

Oh @what-wut I almost forgot the other main thing, do you know your bracket/who you're facing? If I know a character is coming up early I practice against that character the most. Like if you know round 1 is against a Cammy player and Round 2 most likely a DeeJay player wins, then I'd prep those MUs hard.

I know the second and third round guys assuming I win, so I'm gonna watch some footage on the matchup maybe look a bit at the frame data but I think I'm not gonna play any matches until the tournament.

Awesome, good luck!! Nothing beats a good tournament lol.

I think the more time passes worse and worse players are reaching Master basically you can find good master at 25500 sometimes but yeah the 30k plus guys are usually really good but even that is no guarantee lol.
