Fedor's GnP was insane

The shot at 33 seconds sounds like a gunshot. It's amazing Nog survived that.

Fedor's speed is/was incredible for a heavyweight.

Just imagine the punches he would walk Ngannou onto if thhis version of fedor was still fighting.

People always say he was still prime for a HW by age, but forget that he was 31-1 before he started losing at 10 years into the sport only fighting in top orgs.
Show me a single other HW that has pulled that off over a 10 year career? Thhen continued fighting for 10 more years and still has a respectable record.

The right cross Fedor lands in the opening sequence was insanely fast and as Nog was falling Fedor sneaks in a left hook which was equally as fast and both shots landed flush and made a very loud noise of impact. Nog was badly rocked from these and I believe these shots set the tone for the fight and Nog never fully recovered from them.

On the ground Nogueira is hurt but is still using an offensive open guard with double wrist control. This approach worked for him in other fights and allowed him to set up armlocks and triangles but in this particular situation it was a big mistake because he was still hurt and Fedors atheltic posture was so strong that he just sat up and powered out of Nogs double wrist control and bounced Nog's head off the mat with GnP like it was a basketball.

The sound of Fedors punches on the ground sounds like gunshots are going off and it was so brutal to watch that one of the guest female commentators in the Japanese commentary booth was literally crying. The speed and power of Fedors GnP was something to behold. No one has ever done it like this before him and no one has done it like this after him even 19 years later.

Don't get me wrong there have been impressive GnPers. Jon Jones from 2011-2013 comes to mind but most of the damage he did was done by elbows and of course the LW GOAT Khabib comes to mind. When it comes to GnP with the hands no one has surpassed Fedors GnP in 19 and its overlooked how impressive that is. Fedor was an absolute machine and I don't see anyone fighting like this today and I don't see any HWs today who could take these shots and keep coming. Ngannou had top control on Gane and couldn't land one meaningful shot minus that knee against the cage and Gane isn't half the grappler Nog was.

As for Nogueira, you can't say enough about the toughness of this gladiator. Those shots were brutal and someone like Derrick Lewis would roll over and die if he was pounded on like this. Minotauro is hands down one of the toughest men to ever live for not only surviving but still mounting some offense from his back and even reversing Fedor after taking all of that damage. Much respect to Minotauro.

The second time they fought Big Nog made the necessary adjustments and when Fedor was in his guard Big Nog used a defensive approach and kept his guard closed and instead if trying to control Fedors wrists he hugged him tight and controlled him much better and it was clear that these adjustments made it difficult for Fedor to GnP.

Fedor collected the data from these adjustments Nog made and made his own adjustments for the third fight and used his Judo to throw Nog around used his stand up and clinch prowess to sprawl and brawl and keep Nogueira out of rhythm and guesing. I'll be covering that fight and the techniques used in it in my next post.

Let's take this time to appreciate another classic performance during the era of the best HWs we have ever seen.

Emelianenko and Minotauro bless.

That's something you just don't see anymore.
That's what makes Fedor a step above the rest...these kids don't know sir.

Your comment should be taught in every school around the world sir.

Yeah Fedor had great ground 'n' pound and his hand speed was epic too so he could rain down the punches so fast. Fedors hand speed is the same as the very best top level LW and WW fighters, he could light you up without you even having a clue what was going on.

Todays modern 2022 HW's are in super slow speed compared, Fedors hand speed is in another star system

The two greatest heavyweights we have ever seen.

She was regularly at events (her name is Eiko Koike). Big Nog was her favorite fighter.

Shogun is also one of the most underrated with ground and pound.

Agreed, Big Nog is from another planet.

100% sir.
Toughest dudes we ever had the pleasure of witnessing.

I just forget sometimes what it was like watching these sort of fights back in the day.
I generally knew the result by the time I got to, but forget what level these guys were on. Even Big Nog ground work there is completely different to hheavyweights these days as he is getting smashed. Werdum obviously caught Fedor and fair play to him, but I genuinely believe that version of Fedor vs the best version of Werdum wins that fight.

Imagine that level of speed, takedown and ground and pound rolling into todays UFC HW division... even the HW grappling Goat Derrick Lewis wouldn't be able to "just stand up".

Yeah, but then you have people saying how much better guys are today, and people like us that seen it happen know different.

Derrick Lewis wouldn't be top 10 in 2005 and would have difficult fights against fringe top 15 guys like Mir, Ricco, Rizzo, Schilt, Igor, Herring, Coleman, Randleman, Nastula, Erickson, Zentsov etc

The Emperor , and then the chaos ... !

I can't remember exactly ...
maybe was him or his brother, but in a
GNP every time he was hitting his opponent was saying...
DA ... DA ... DA ... ! L☻L !

I believe the Japanese girl that was crying was in a relationship with Nog back during that time

There is a big story from Sam Sheridan about the third Nog/Fedor fight in his book A Fighter's heart,as he travels with Nogueria's team to the fight as part of his research. Its really sad when you see how all their preperation was for naught, and that they had tried very hard to make Nogueira faster than Fedor, and they found out pretty soon he wasnt. Also Fedor did not fight at all like he did in the first and second fights,so all the stuff Nog trained for was of no use.

I think that while Derrick would probably be inconsistent in any era in history,he could beat alot of those top 15 ers,and have it not always be difficult either. He could score upsets higher than that.

Hed beat some top 15 guys but would lose to some as well. Mixed results sounds right.

Haven't seen any HW until this day throw gnp like prime fedor.
But even fedor wasn’t able to replicate that depending on his opponents defense. Cro-cop spent half the fight on the bottom without taking much damage.
