Fedor taps mark hunt

The very start of Fedor's decline. His feet and hands were both fucked up going into the Hunt fight if memory serves.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Wasn’t this fight postponed at one point because of Fedor’s hand injuries?

From what I remember he broke the lower part of his foot/toe like 2 weeks before this fight on some hunting trip.

Looks like you’re right. I googled around a bit and it looks like the hand injuries were the year before this, Fedor had a broken toe for the Hunt fight.

Lol??

Mark Hunt became a brown belt in BJJ at ATT under Ricardo Liborio. At no point in Hunts pride run was he close to being a brown belt..his grappling in Pride was downright terrible and it was bad in his early UFC run as well which is why he got submitted by horrible fighters like McCorkle. In Japan he got submitted by Yoshida, out grappler by MW Wand, easily subbed by Fedor then got easily taken down by young ass 185 Mousasi and easily submitted by Reem. His grappling got better in the UFC after dedicating himself to ATT and hes a better grappler now than he ever was. Anyone saying Hunt was better grappler in Japan is honestly clueless lol
You Are really serious... wow.. a belt color is your argument?

He sure worked his tdd (like I said), but stopped working his grappling, And was a completely different fighter.

Wand was probably much stronger than Hunt in their fight, so using mw as an argument is just silly. You should see the fight. Overeem and Mousasi were always excellent grapplers, but by that time, Hunt said he stopped training mma. Yoshida is a world champion grappler.

I dont want to be rude, but this Sounds like you got your facts from Joe Rogan.

Yea thanks for confirming you dont know anything about BJJ lol

Go read abour about Ricardo Liborios BJJ requirements for getting a brown belt then get back to me. It exceeds "working" your takedown defense lol

Delusional

Further more it's hilarious how you assume Hunt with LESS mat time had a better ground game than Hunt with decade MORE mat time....

But like I said you're delusional lol

Like I said, he had a much better groundgame in his earlier years. After he came to the UFC he was just a sprawling striker. A belt just means he proved something for a coach. I am pretty sure Fedor could go in And get a good BJJ belt too tomorrow, even if he seems to have more or less abandoned his grappling many years ago.

Hunt does mostly standup now. Less mat time.

Hunt of the past 5 years has taken plenty of ass whippings. So please stfu with your dumbass predictions. It could go either way because both past their prime af.
Someones but hurt :D it's you buddie

How did he have a better ground game in his earlier years when he had a fraction of the mat time and was training with nobodies in Australia??? Like how does that even make sense????

You're saying Hunt had better grappling with 10 years less grappling experience????

Doesnt sound right.

So how do you explain him getting treated like a white belt by 185lb young Mousasi or McCorkle in the UFC?

McCorkle isn’t actually a bad grappler, he just sucks in takedowns, striking, cardio and had a weak heart (but great sense of humour) imo.

Getting subbed by Mousasi is no disgrace, Marcelo Garcia was smaller than him winning ADCC.

Hunt was a guy to rise to the occasion which he did against Fedor.

He had a long period where he didnt seem motivated, and probably wasnt training as hard. He then later went on quite a tear.

Apparently he had a crystal meth addiction at one point, I think it was around that time but not sure.

You can’t train when you are addicted to meth.

I really need to read his book

I'm not disagreeing with you I'm just saying there is no way Hunt was a better grappler a decade ago.

It's a good read. His father was one mean SOB.

I don't want to spoil it for you, but not only did he have a drug addiction, he was drinker and smoker. When he used to fight at clubs starting out, he'd be drinking and smoking cigarettes at the bar before the fight. He barely ever trained or took it seriously either.

He had a little trouble with Hunt's size. Fedor's TD's were all body lock twist/throws usually well timed after a punching barrage. If you have trained, you know that those power throws/upper body TDs are a little harder against guys that are large with solid bases. That's why Hunt landed on top a couple times, if I remember. I'm literally going off memory of watching the fight on ppv like I always do talking about Pride. Maybe I'll watch the vid posted for old times sake.

Of course it does. Around 2007-2008, Fedor also changed his fighting style, And more or less abandomed his grappling. It might have been injuries or that he stopped training.

For Hunt it was probably just that he knew What would work, And had a gym that saw that a good striker with tdd can do great in a weaker HW division.
