Fedor strengths and weaknesses and his skillset in the UFC today (Long Thread)

GSP: "Fedor is the GOAT."

Jon Jones: "Fedor belongs on Mount Rushmore of MMA."

Jose Aldo: "Fedor is the GOAT."

Random, basement dwelling, 40 year old virgin, loser from sherdog: "Fedor sucks. He lost to MW Hendo."

posting the fact dan henderson beat fedor makes someone a 40 year old virgin basement dweller, youve gone completely apeshit over an mma fighter who could give two fucks about you who by the way lost to a 40 year old LOL

DC: Fedor woulda been average in the UFC
DC ??? He got chewed up online for saying that and immediately went into damage control after saying that. At least quote a better source. Fedor has better critics out there

Cormier has now responded to the backlash he’s received across the past few days. In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, the former UFC Heavyweight Champion defended his comments, reiterating that he’d only discussed a specific time period that came after Fedor’s prime years.

“Guys, let’s just put this out there. I absolutely love Fedor. Let’s not make it anything that it isn’t. Earlier in the week I had this conversation on my show Debate DC… We had a conversation about whether or not Fedor could rule the UFC in the way that he did in Pride (and) all of the other organizations he fought in prior. I said no, but I was very specific in the timeframe. I didn’t say that 2005, four, three, six Fedor couldn’t… I didn’t say that. I said in a window of nine to 12, I didn’t think that he would be as good as he had shown to be prior.”

Not responding to your posts because it feels like talking to someone with a 4th grade education. You don't even know what a sentence is. Smh.

27 pages lol

I dont bother arguing that long with people who dont accept Fedor as their LORD and MASTER.

Just move on lad.

TK bless.

lol I couldn’t tell you. I can tell you that before the Arona fight ever happened, Fedor had already won a gold medal in sambo at the European Championships and bronze medals at the Russian championships, and likewise in judo he had won bronze medals at the Russian National Championships which puts his judo at the level of an Olympic alternate.
—Fedor knew how to grapple.

It’s very hard to make judgments based on RINGS fights. Plenty of good fighters came through there, but the ruleset was so dumb it’s hard to make judgements like you were trying to do.
There were no ground strikes to the head either in RINGS lol. When Fedor went to PRIDE, some ppl speculated that he wouldn’t know what to do with GnP as he never experienced it in RINGS. Turns out he was a fucking master at it. But point is, it’s not reliable to make judgments like that without understanding the ruleset.

Really I think a lot of what you see in that fight is that he's still fighting for the Judo/Sambo like environment were grappling tends to be in relatively short spells, he makes a lot of decisions like going for guillotines that Arona exploits to build up position.

Ultimately as well that fight is just a few months after debut, other fighters have actual loses years after their debut excused as not being in their prime yet.

Seeing Fedor in Rings is weird if your used to how he was after. The ruleset made him alot less effective. He was def sloppier, and his game was limited by the rules. Once he hits Pride,he starts pulverizing people into street pizza.

His fight against Herring I remember being a massive eye opener for people at the time, back then body had ever really seen GnP like that, a quality grappller creating real distance to throw power shots rather than Coleman like slow beatdowns.

You can kind of see a bit of preview against Babalu I spose were he works him over with GnP to the body.

Nah, sahn. He lost twice to Mirko and Mirko isn't on the ranking you posted. Let me get you a spoon.
I’m sorry you don’t like the ranking. I’ll send you a Get Well Soon card.
I mean, it is what it is. I don’t think it’s how I’d rank it, but if someone says “Fujita was a ranked opponent” and provides a contemporary ranking, then I think you’re stuck with it. Better luck next time!

Its also because there were tons of RTT guys before Fedor (and later Sergei)

All tough guys but would get outclassed on the ground by the BTT guys. Fedor crushing Herring was just not what people were expecting

That's not even a nice try. Justify his ranking, fella. How was he ranked? Two losses to an unranked fighter and two wins over unranked fighters.

Back it up or grab your spoon and eat it like a good little boy.

I would reverse the point as well and say that generally in Fedor's era "top 10" had much more relevance than in recent years, the era around the end of Pride I think is arguebly the strongest the top 10 at HW has ever been with Fedor, Nog, Crocop, Barnett, Arlovski, Werdum, Aleks, Sergei, Sylvia, Hunt, to be a top 10 fighter at that point was a mark of really elite skill.

I think in the current era a very good chance guys like Coleman, Fujita, Randleman, Semmy, Goodridge, Herring, etc would be top 10 or higher, Semmy honestly I think could potentially be champ in the current UFC given the relative lack of quality grappling.

That's why they call it the golden era of HW in MMA. I think the second best era was around 2008-2012ish.

Yeah damage control as you said : it's just makerting since Fedor is popular among some hardcore fans that will harrase you on Twitter.

We already know what happened to Fedor once he faced some decent competition.

Once again, not a single pretending GOAT has a loss as embarrassing as Fedor against an old MW, not a single one, no matter the fighting sport.

In today UFC era, nobody would think that a guy who fought in WW would ever have a chance against a HW champion.
