Fedor started slowing down at 33, GSP retired at 32, Jones is 32..

athletic prime is athletic prime.. but he didn't have to deal with a declining level of skill or reflexes to adjust to. so .. maybe that matters.

Jones might haver overlooked his last few opponents. He hasn't been in that many wars and some fighters can be in their prime or close to prime sometimes until 34-35.

Well mainly Cormier doesn't have the damage on his chin.

Well Jones looks a lot different now because he's not juiced up. Some of it may be due to aging but it's pretty damn crystal clear at this point that the steroids made a huge difference to his skillset.

Do keep in mind that in spite of his age, Fedor at 6`0 (183cm) was very small for a heavyweight and depended a lot on his speed for his power. Jones is an incredible physical specimen, bigger than his opponents, and his decline will not be as sharp.

Judging by recent performances his decline has been fairly sharp.

He stopped doing steroids and almost immediately stopped becoming dominant and has arguably lost his last two fights.

he always was the smalller guy and it never bothered him in the past
Not always he was a smaller guy. Thats bullshit. Fedor fought around 225-235 pounds in his Pride reign. His most formiddable rivals at the time fought in 220-250 pounds range, pretty much the same weight. Yes Fedor fought Shilt, Zulu and Choi, but those were not championship fights afaik. (and Fedor won)
Ranleman, Coleman, Crocop, Fujita, Herring, Big Nog twice. Thats the legacy. Top guys for 10 years. Same weight class.

At 6'0 and 24-26% body fat he most certainly did not mostly fight men his size. Even Arona dwarfed him.

Fedor's fight with Brett Rogers, he struggled. Of course he was giving up some 40 pounds of weight, but he always was the smalller guy and it never bothered him in the past. He looked slower, weaker and unmotivated. He still dominated every second of the fight and KOd the guy but this was the fight that was an eye opener for us Fedor fans, that he is beginning to slow down and becoming reckless. Fedor was fighting for 9 years and was undefeated. He would go on a bad losing streak from this point, many believe he should have retired undefeated.

GSP retired at the young age of 32. He did it after he had a tough fight with Hendricks which many believe he lost. He was dominated in that fight in every aspect of the game. He slowed down too and with usada looming around, it was time to call it quits.

Jones will be 33 this years and he too seems to be slowing down, allowing the rest of the pack to catch up with him. He looks very beatable now, he was arguably beaten in his last two fights. Should he retire undefeated?

Goats retire or start to lose steam at young age! 32/33 is that age.

except for Anderson who ruled the world till 38.
He didnt dominate every second of that Roger's fight.

Remarkable that Silva didn’t lose until 38. GSP retired at 32, Fedor lost at 33 & Jones (32) is starting to slow down slightly. Silva doesn’t get the appreciation he truly deserves as fans remember the last 5-7 years but not what he accomplished in the sport prior to old age becoming a factor. Prime Anderson Silva was the best ever. Period.

Primes are usually a lot shorter than we think. Honestly it could be only 3-5 years that’s it! Out of a 80-90 year life, you’re basically only prime for 3-5 years lol.

on a side note, the fact that topics related to hairlines, girls friends, and physical primes get so much attention on this forum, goes to show the insecurities people face on this forum lol.

There was an article/research that says a person's physical peaks at age 30. Even though he didn't start fighting until 30, he has been competing at the highest physical level since forever. I think it's also safe to say he didn't do any striking until late 20s, all past his physical prime. Imagine if he fought earlier. He'd dominate everyone.

Honestly it’s probably lower. Metabolism starts to decline around 28-29, so I’m assuming physical performance also begins to deteriorate around that time. Sad to think we live a life that’s 80-90 years long and only have 4-5 peak years.

Wow getting caught in a triangle and scissor heel hook before his lengthy, dominant, and legendary run is unfathomable! The DQ loss to Okami he avaged by TKO’ing him the UFC. Give your head a shake trying to down play the GOAT.

Jones fought sporadically until his comeback against Gus, and popped hot for what, the third time? So less wear and tear. Not all careers are the same. DC basically started in his 30s and looked very fast. But yes, most athletes start declining at 32+ so we will see. The juice thing puts things into perspective though. Jones threw DC around and couldn’t take down a dude that Volkan bullied. Doesn’t make sense

Jones grappling style is all based on using his height and length as leverage, its why he got the better of DC but went 0 for 12 on takedowns in the first Gus fight and struggled with Reyes.

Good point, that’s why I don’t think hed do well at HW

Absolutely Jones should "retire". Jones needs to do exactly what GSP did to salvage his career, that is, vacate the title, and go for the big fights and make the big bucks, if he has to wait a couple years then so be it, it worked out great for guys like Diaz and GSP. If Jones keeps fighting there's no doubt in my mind someone will beat him, and we've seen what happens to the guys who had long undefeated title reigns after they get beat, they become past their prime. What Jones needs to do is maybe defend 1 more time not against Reyes, retire in the octagon, then give Reyes like 2 years to build up a good record and come out of retirement for that fight if he wants, or he waits for all the MWs to fill seats in the LHW division again, either way, Jones temporarily retiring and doing big money fights is the best move he can make career wise because it's all down hill from here.

From personal experience, a mans body starts to change as you start to hit your mid thirties. Whatever your body can do for you from then on depends on ones mind.

Great thread...

One Thing... It lacks real accuracy and TS probably didnt watch the fights & tales of the tape.

One more proof that ya dont know what ya´re talkin´about, since ya didnt notice´em [inaccuracies].

He is a 235lb fighter. Quit trying to make him smaller.

And even if you did, it’s a dumb argument as that just meant he was faster than his larger opponents. So who cares if he had a size disadvantage if he instead had a speed advantage?

His size was perfectly fine for HW.

hmm..nah, my dear Markie..

Gono´s jus´exposed yourself quotin´a mediocre thread ("who cares?" Ya, since ya´re the one who quoted that ol´thread...) with several inaccuracies, and this is exactly what Gono´s been tryin´to make ya acknowledge: ya dont know what ya´re talkin´about.

It iz what it iz, my dear friend.

What fighters? And what was their weight? If I remember correctly there were like 4 really large guys with 2 being over 300. Heaviest weight was like 350. Standard Pride circus fights.
Choi, 7.2", 360lbs, Zulu 400lbs, Schilt 6.11" 300lbs.
But what really impresses everyone is his wins over giant ufc champ in their prime: Tim and Arlovski.
Fedor looked like Tim's son standing next to him. Tim was 15 times bigger than Fedor, in Conor's measurement's system.

Anderson has double digit losses. GSP has 2.

Anderson has lost to fighters GSP has beaten.
Anderson has wins over opponents who have lost to numerous opponents that GSP has beaten.
GSP has held a title in Anderson’s own division (double champion)
Anderson has been busted for PED’s thus making his career one big asterisk
Lol at Anderson being above GSP. Him being a better finisher doesn’t compensate for all the things that goes against him

So in other words, all of the bullshit excuses that Jones fans make for him not going to HW are completely invalid?

Thanks, that's exactly what I thought too.
