FBI raids office of Michael Cohen, personal attorney to Donald Trump

So serendipitous that this GIF came into my hands right in time to get so much mileage out of it.

I'll be sure to reciprocate when Trump fires Mueller, and it is determined he had every right to do so.

Mueller was not investigating this avenue. Why do you think he handed it off to another branch? This whole thing is ridiculous. The very definition of a snoop. Get anything and everything, and fuck the original investigation. Won't be surprised if some traffic violations from Trump's past are brought to light.

I thought this was about Russia? No?

Fuck this shit. Mueller jumped the shark. I hope Trump fires him. Personally. No back channels. And I hope congress does nothing about it, when it happens. This is absolute insanity, and while I'm sure the Libby brigade loves this "process" right now, they will not like it in the future. Precedents are getting set, and this is getting way out of hand. Trump needs to bring an end to this madness.

You're scared. It's okay to admit that, son.

Not at all. This just opened the door for Trump to end the whole thing. We'll probably never find out what evil deeds Trump was up to with those pesky Russians, because Mueller got desperate, and pulled this petty shit.

If while investigating one crime he sees evidence of what he thinks is another crime, I am pretty sure he has an obligation to report to other authorities who can then decide whether it is worthy of pursuit or not.

Of course. But have you reviewed Mueller's mandate? Here it is:

(i) any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump;

(ii) any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation

So the question is, why would Trump's lawyer's payment to a mistress arise out of (i)? As far as I know, there are no alleged links between the Russian government and Cohen. Further, as far as I know, Cohen is not an "individual associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump".

Honestly, I don't know enough about the Starr investigation to comment. I think some of the points you've made about special counsels are fine, though I wonder about the practicality. Conditional upon a satisfactory and effective replacement for the institution, I'd be open to re-examining it.

It's worth brainstorming about. I've thought about a system in which we have a "permanent special commission" whose job it is to investigate the president all the time. Basically an OIG with subpoena power. Maybe divide the nation into six regions (each region being a group of states) and each region offers a member.

I'd like to know where you're getting your faith in Trump.

{<huh}

Also, your definition of "low-level" is quite odd.

You think Papadopolous isn't low-level? Carter Page? They didn't get anything significant on Flynn, plus he was only in his position for what, 18 days?

So you believe Trump is a criminal but actively support ending any investigation into him. Shocking.

So if Mueller comes across a body Trump murdered he should just let it go, because it is not part of his investigation.
He did what any good cop would do, he passed it on to someone else or in your eyes since the crime is not part of Russia it should be ignored.

This might be right.

However, it might also be wrong.

Geez, I'm on fire today.

No, I think the whole thing is a joke, and has turned up a whole lot of nothing, but that's beside the point.

Mueller just overplayed his hand. He's out of control, and should be, and hopefully will be fired. We're back at alleged campaign finance violations? When do we get the dirt on Russia? Oh', that's right, never, because there's nothing there, and this whole thing was designed to get Trump out of office at any cost, no matter how petty and trivial.

Trump is going to fire Mueller, and it will be well earned. Hope he does it tomorrow.

This, this is prostitution in print.

Michael Cohen is being investigated for campaign finance laws connected with the 2016 election, which is the event the Mueller investigation is investigating.

You can bitch about "There's a precedent set here!!" all you want, but the fact remains that the precedent was set during the Clinton investigation, which started with WhiteWater, and ended with a sucked dick.

Rosenstein himself laid it out quite well, the scope is broad.

I am also glad your whore ass isn't in America, with something like a law degree. Good god.

It's really hard for anyone on Sherdog to comment intelligently without reading the warrant and Mueller's referral.

Nevertheless, on the surface this looks a lot like the "mission creep" that Dershowitz has warned us about. Remember Whitewater?

It also makes me think that FBI/CIA/NSA are more powerful than any of our elected officials. God help you if you get on their bad side.

Or commit crimes

So......... Mueller not raiding Cohen means Mueller is corrupt and needs to be fired. Interesting opinion.

Something tells me you would feel the same if Mueller had been the one to order the raid.

I was with you until you mentioned illegal activity. Which specific illegal activity is being covered up? If you don't know, then how can you act so certain that this supposed activity occurred?

Most likely because Trump was sloppy/lazy in his hiring. There are already multiple examples of that.

That could be true, but I think it would be a testament to Mueller's skill/competence rather than to the necessity of a special counsel investigation into alleged links between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.

I didn't say covered up, I said trying to keep illegal activity from being investigated, which is why Comey started leaking his memos soon after he was fired (not to mention Brennan's accusations in his rage tweet) to keep the investigation going. We only know what has been disclosed, but so on the US side far we have three guilty pleas from people inside Trump's campaign, Manafort in deep shit, Erik Prince being investigated, Cohen in deep shit for something that may or may not be related to Russia but is apparently quite illegal and quite distressing to Trump, and Mueller wanting to depose Trump. That is off the top of my head, but I think there are more issues.

As for Manafort, I agree that Trump has had his staffing issues, but Manafort was his campaign manager and a known guy in the GOP. I think as the investigation expanded and more was known, possibly including intel from Flynn flipping, things got worse quickly for Manafort.
