I was fairly new to the rasslin business in 1986, and Orndorff's turn on Hogan might have been the first heel turn I got to see live. It left an impression on me, which is probably the reason it's always been my favorite.

Yea, it was the first huge heel turn I ever saw also, it was done so well with the phone call skit and then the clothesline in the match vs Studd & Bundy

It lead to an amazing house show run too, specifically because Orndorff was such a great heel and it was believable that he might be able to beat Hogan for the strap

Bobby Heenan & Orndorff were so great together in that whole storyline, Orndorff stealing Hogan's Real American entrance music and then the legendary cage match on Saturday Night's Main Event with the tie finish

I always say Hogan-Andre is the greatest WWF storyline ever because of everything it lead to but Hogan-Orndorff is right there with it as 1 & 1A imo

I about came out of my seat when Orndorff stole Hogan's music! The dastard!

Orndorff was such a beast in the ring. If the booking style then was as it is today (where title changes are common instead of years- long runs) he'd have had at least one great heel championship reign.

They were deathly afraid to ever take that belt off of Hogan, and when they did, he got it back pretty quickly.

They were understandably scared to stop the gravy train.

Ole turning on Dusty was huge for the time.

Ditto Marty running away from Shawn and falling through the barbershop window.

Of course, but there was also a different mindset regarding champions in that era, especially the world belt.

I had such high hopes on the Cena turn...

Hogan for me is the correct answer, it changed the industry. You could argue Vince screwing Bret (work or shoot).

One that I always loved personally was Arn Anderson turning on Dustin Rhodes in early 90s WCW

Perfect execution in the moment. Shame about the follow up.

I really want to know what happened with all that behind the scenes. There's no way they had no plan for it. There's no way Cena would've agreed to it, without being sold on it with a great angle. Something happened that fucked that whole thing up. That angle was set up on a tee to drive right into Wrestlemania.

The Rock happened to it, that's all.

I was a kid when Andre betrayed Hogan and I remember being legit afraid for Hogan's life.

The bleeding from having his cross ripped off with his shirt made that segment and Piper went with it perfectly.
