Fat BJJ guys

Incorrect. Some people just have no awareness of how much they eat and how many calories they actually expend. Make a food/activity log.

The only common issue with unlosable weight that I know of is thyroid problems, and lazy fatties love throwing that one around.

You can't cheat thermodynamics.

you're half right- caloric balance is key. thing is, even w/out thyroid problems, some people can eat a lot less than others and gain weight while others are losing; everybody's metabolism is different, sometimes drastically so. so fatties still need to eat less to lose weight, but they might be eating a lot less than you think already.

Your base metabolic rate is something you're supposed to account for in "calories out". It still does not mean that some people are, "just fat". Just because a person's BMR runs low, doesn't mean they somehow ignore, "Less calories, lose weight."

When someone says they're eating clean, I assume that also means balanced.

i tend to think most people mean they're avoiding unprocessed foods and the like when they say they're eating clean.

yeahbut... you responded to someone saying that some people are just fat with "incorrect." well, yeah, some people kind of are, even though they're exercising and eating less than us non fatties. sure, they can get skinnier by eating less, but at 'normal' food intakes, they are going to be "just fat." just something to recognize.

Did you noticed that these strong fat guys tend to have sick top games, some of my clients that push the 350-400lbs mark are always commenting that after the 6 month mark they tend to have no real problems with even the higher best at their club well as long as they stay on top that is. i wonder why that is :)

BEST gis for big fat guys

I wouldn't call myself fat, more built like Fedor. I'm 5'11 and weigh 240, but I grew up playing hockey and speed skating for 15 years, and I am pretty damn fast for a big guy. I got my blue belt from Shaolin Ribeiro when I lived in NYC and now I'm training with Bruno Malfacine. I am a big guy with a little guys game and speed.

like five eight i think? 215 right now. my gut hides until i start breathing heavily.
guys hate me on top of them in the gym i train at (cept for the three higher ranks, but they're blue belts and a brown belt aka the instructor). gut makes it hard to do any of the fancy roll around, throw my leg through your legs to sweep you stuff i see some guys do. i've always been a heavier guy. coming out of afghanistan, i still came out at 190 when i came in at 210. eh maybe i should try this 'more healthier and watch my calories' thing
i also need to pimp GFG. i got a fat guy sized gi made for me. love that thing. one of these days, i'll get a review up.

yeah big strong guys are always tough to roll with i know 2 years back i was just doing privates with a 135lbs black belt and he's been a black belt for as long as i had been rolling and being 65lbs heavier then him after about 6 months of rolling with him 2-4 times a week of training with him we were having some good long rolls, and every once and a while i'd caught him, but he's still got the better of me 8-10 taps but it was only with chokes he said i was to big and strong for him to try to take an arm, and for a 200 pounder i was just average build. I can't imagine the real super heavies that grab my gis can get away with those guys are most likely beasts on the top even with just some basics.

There is this local black belt whos around 360lbs an expowerlifter and all, one of his stories is that he has never been tapped out since he got his blue belt, he can hardly walk due to his joints needing some TLC but if he gets on top of anyone under 250lbs they never escape or i have yet to hear of anyone escaping, and all he does is make tiny little adjustments to his position and complain that they aren't trying hard enough to escape lol. Sometime i wish i had that gravitational pull on people especially for those guys that have that have 300+ pound bench and know how to use that strength i try and control them for a few mins but i always start loosing that control piece by piece and im stuck playing a floating game which 8 out of 10 times ends in a scramble.

sfw84 if you do a review be sure to message me and let me know i'd love to get your feedback.

sorry i didn't mean to insult anyone by stating i have gis for big fat guys it's just 80% of the people that call me asking for a gi are like "i can't lie i'm a big athletic fat guy i use to play football (or use to be a powerlifter) and i cant find a gi that fits me". lol

Some fat guys can be really fast and have excellent cardio.

Karl Malone was one of those guys during his basketball career. Fat man, but great athlete.

This thread has made me realise I'm probably a fat guy or on the way to being it, even though I really dont look it.

I'm around 6' and weigh 95kg (210lbs?).

Not currently training but returning soon, recently dropped 3 kgs via a detox and then another 5-6 through change of diet (no carbs, higher fat/protein intake).

When I was training consistently i was probably at around 91-92kg and found that I felt I was a really awkward weight, big enough that skinny people classified me as a "fat guy" but small enough that the legitimate big guys would throw me around/crush me.

Love triangles but I have a long body and shorter legs so they're not the easiest, but i'll still look for them every time.

I am the fat guy at my gym... then i met this guy in the semi finals of pan ams last year... fucken beast mode.. dude was 7 feet tall. Most challenging guard to pass. Huge legs.

I love the photo, combatcvic. You're all like, "Holy hell, where did all these limbs come from?"

yeah it sucks. the fatties at my gym always do fat guy moves too. Lol its always a kimura or a north south choke

fat guy here: 6'4" and 245

I hate when people say big guy jiu jitsu is lazy, or weight dependant or lacking technique. That couldn't be more wrong. Because I know I have a size advantage I work that much harder on my technique so I can hit moves with skill and not just muscle. I work on inverted techniques, leg drags and tornado sweeps.

My pressure is not oppresive because I am a big guy. My pressure is oppresive because I worked hard on it, applying detailed concepts to be as heavy and pressure laddened as possible. A big fat guy laying on you is not the same as a big guy who knows how to use the presh.

Big jiu jitsu pratcioners have it the worst. Roll light against a little guy and they can brag about taking it to the big guy. School someone with technique and they say you can only do things because you have a size advantage. I didn't kata juji jime you because of my size, but rather because my technique was inescapable.

Instructor is in the middle...when he wants to be an ass and you his weight.....you just become a pancake.....

I hear this a lot. Your size does help you quite a bit. Yeah, you may have technique also, but size does help. A lot.

Im fat. But once I lost a bunch of weight, and only then realized how much my weight was helping me. It helps a shitload.

That said, you can't expect a big man to use small guy moves and I don't think it is any less technical to have a plodding pressure game. You have the best game for your body. But let's not act like size is not an advantage, it is a huge advantage.
