FALLOUT 4 Official Discussion: Super Stimpak Edition

The textures look a bit sharper. I've watched it on two different screens now and came away underwhelmed by them both times.

I'm sure the game will be great, just a bit surprised that it doesn't look very next gen.

Bethesda games will never have that graphic appeal other games will. There is just way too much stuff in the games to focus on high end graphics. Its all about getting immersed in the land and the characters in it. That's why people say that Bethesda games are made to play on PC. They mod the crap out of them and make the graphics up to current date themselves. I will take the lesser graphics with the 150+ hour gameplay over the 10 hour beautiful one (The Order) any day of the week.

I bought Mad Max from them recently and it works like a charm.

Almost didn't though because they asked for a photo of my drivers license to verify my identity. I thought fuck it, blanked out all the good stuff and left my name and address and that got me through

They must not trust you. I didn't have to do that

Can't expect much when they want to run the game on an gimped console at a playable framerate.

Next gen is here boys!

trailer had me like

Just played both in the last year, and imo, they're both pretty much the same. New Vegas was more fun.

Not trying to be pompous but have you played Fallout 1 & 2?
If you have, you must have noticed that Fallout 3 is the only 1/4 that doesn't really feel the same. Not saying it isn't fun but it isn't as canon so to speak..

Ryse had the best graphics I have ever seen. I played through it once...that was it.

Only a little more than a month away. I need to burn through Metal Gear Solid 5 because once this comes out nothing else is going in my PS4 for a while.

This could be the game that get's me to buy a gaming PC and a 4k TV to hook it up to. I've always been a console guy, but it seems obvious that they already can't offer top-end graphics right now on mulit-plat titles.

Fallout 3 was a melodramatic, lore-breaking mess of grey & brown textures and black & white choices. Fallout New Vegas is one of the best role-playing games of it's generation.

Still, I loved them both.

Fallout is my favorite series.

I feel like FO3 ran out of money in development or something. The framework for actually using the GECK seems to be in the game; All the power substations, the water towers, the pipelines.
The fact all those things were interactive but didn't have a real reason in the game makes me feel like they wanted more terraforming gameplay to flesh it out.

Complaining about the graphics is like complaining your new F-150 isn't fast enough.

No, I didn't really get into RPGs until I was about 22 or 23, and I'm 28 now. But I probably couldn't bring myself to play those 2-D versions.

Probably going to be ok, I guess. I'd be more excited for Van Buren though.

I think it looks much better than Skyrim. I kind of surprised by the negative comments about the graphics. I thought it looked great.
Well, I think they took a bit of a (welcomed) risk in showing some live gameplay footage in third-person on the second half of the trailer, so maybe the lack of first-person zoom didn't illustrate the detail of the graphics enough. But honestly, as long as it looks decent by next-gen standards, graphics aren't that big of a deal to me.

I liked the trailer a lot (got them goosebumps on the first viewing), but upon further revision, there's nothing that really stands out as an amazing feature/addition that really excites me. Hope they have some lined up for future trailers.

For example: with mills and lathes in the previous games as just non-interactive models, I was really hoping they would expand the "crafting" feature into a full-blown engineering mode, where one would have to gather schematics, interpret them, and machine them accordingly using machine shop tools. That would be so fitting for a post-apocalyptic world like Fallout, especially with "The Institute" being based on MIT.

Well, I might be a little biased and nostalgic (Fallout was my first own PC game back in 1998. ) but..

if you ever get to any isometric RPG in the future, give one of those a chance. Just start with the first one, update it up with the latest stuff like hi-res patch & unofficial patch. Even tho the gameplay is different, the atmosphere still holds up.

As hyped as I am for this, not gonna buy it on release, much less pre-order. Skyrim was the last time I did that.
With their shitty DLC business model they basically force you to buy the game twice. Once on release and a 2nd time after the invevitable GOTY version comes out.

Just gonna replay 3 + NV and wait for the GOTY version & all the bug fixes.

Awesome that's it's finally confirmed.

BUT

It looks a bit too much like Fallout 3 to me. And while that is one of my favorite games of all time, and the best in the franchise, I hope this one sets itself apart instead of just being an upgraded version of that.

The graphics certainly don't look best-in-class but I'm sure I won't mind at all if the gameplay, story and atmosphere are good. Come to think of it, it's nice that a big publisher is not overpromising with an epic trailer with graphics that can't reasonably be expected in the final product.

Hype level: 8/10

It's weird how my favorite game series of the each of the last two gens I didn't even get into until part 3 (GTA & Fallout). And then this gen I played The Witcher for the first time. Weird.

It's more of the same shit, but that shit just happens to be Fucking Awesome.

Now, to wait an unknown number of months.

...

I wouldn't worry about the collector's edition being out of stock. Amazon usually will "find" a buttload hidden somewhere and release them around the Christmas shopping season.

Patience young weedhopper...

Hype hype hype

I'm a bit disappointed we didn't see Fenway though.

First world problems.

I think the entire video game industry falls into "first world ______." :icon_lol:

I would love to see the kid who worries more about his Fallout character build than the ability to get clean drinking water though.

ummm what???

Their DLC is always stand alone and never needed to enjoy the game. Also the DLC is to notch and comes way after the initial release. You get more then fair value for that 60 bucks.

Oh man 5 more weeks guys. Can you fucking believe it?!?!? I'm counting the days.

It sucks this game is $80 bucks though :( New game prices are ridiculous. I'm almost tempted to wait till Black Friday and see if they lower it even 10 bucks. Damn shitty Canadian Dollar

Vacation time put in for and accepted.

Bring it, Bethesda.

Man, say what you will about bethesdas flaws, of which there are many, but very few games make me lose all sense of time like theirs. I generally can't marathon a game for extended periods of time, but they have this unnerving ability to plant my ass in a seat for absolutely embarrassing amounts of time.

Well we won't know anything about the actual game until E3. This is actually much more than they showed for the FO3 reveal trailer; at least this has game play footage in it.

They've also probably learned to not overplay their hand in the visuals department due to the backlash W3 and Watchdogs got for it. I wouldn't be surprised if this thing is close to release as is.

And I would most certainly expect some deeper game play elements like you say. In many ways I feel like Witcher 3 set a new standard for open-world gameplay. From the unique and rich quest structure to the detailed and fun crafting system. I have to think Bethesda recognized the need to go farther than they have with Skyrim.

Unique dungeons, deeper game play mechanics etc.... I think that will define whether this game meets the hype or not.

Hopefully next gen Bethesda games are less broken. They've been working on this for 8 years so..

Exactly. I will gladly pay more for the same shit and be happy about it.

Wow only 5 weeks. It still seems so far away.

I'm seeing on GAF that it may be built on idTech 5 and apparently that's not good for the mod community. I have no idea but that's what m reading.

I wouldn't count on it, they are always broken at launch. To be fair though there is a lot going on in their games to account for

I didn't want to say anything and look dumb but when I watched the trailer I was thinking to myself that it looked like an idTech 5 game.

edit: could just be that it looks so much better than the gamebryo engine that FO3 and NV ran on.

Its bound to have bugs. It wont be "broken" though. For me Skyrim was a relatively smooth experience upon launch.

I think I'll buy this on ps4 and the computer. Ill be ordering a new computer soon but I can't wait for it to ship and everything. I've wanted this game for too long. Plus I want to start modding it once I get my computer. So I'll want to have played to see how I'll mod it, although I have an idea of what I'd like to do already.

It might have been to much for me to program since I'm a noob but I wanted to add in a jet pack. I was pumped to see they added it themselves. Less work for me now.
